Stop Falling For Weight Loss Click Bait

Stop Falling For Weight Loss Click Bait

The other day I stumbled upon a very interesting article. It was titled I stopped running and lost 50 pounds. It was a very crafty title. It made me stop in my tracks–the mere words challenged everything I believed about running and weight loss. I was immediately curious about how on earth she lost all of that weight by *not* running.

The article, which is super interesting talks about how she became a power lifter and cut it sugar  that is what finally helped her to break through to her weight loss. I’ve heard of this before, it’s nothing new. Some bodies respond positively to weight lifting (including mine). However, it also triggered another annoying fact–I am so tired of these articles.

I’ve tried everything.

There was a point in time where I was running around with my head cut off trying. every. single. diet. I’ve done high fat, extremely low carb with my husband and lost 5lb while he lost a good 25 in the same period. I’ve gone high carb/low fat and seen a minimal difference. I’ve done low calorie and saw good progress for a couple months then the plateaus seem like they would never end. Every time there is a new article I’m convinced–THAT must be it! I need to eliminate sugar/carbs/fat/salt/meat/FOOD from my diet. Duh.

I shared the article in my Facebook group (Women Prioritizing Fitness) and the ladies had a LOT to say. My friend Carly even wrote about her take on the article on her blog. We all talked about our experiences with different diets/workouts and only one thing was consistent. Every body is totally different. Intermittent fasting may work for some, low carb may be super successful and even clean diets don’t work for some. (I know that is a sincere shocker for people but it’s true).

Everything ain’t for everybody.

These articles while they may be useful for some but can easily spark a lot of confusion in women who are trying to find what works for them. It’s tough to not only maintain a very full life with a demanding job, even more demanding family and convenience knocking at your door at every turn.

These articles are a dime a dozen, the media will keep sharing them and those of us looking for answers will keep clicking. It’s important that we all understand that every diet is not for us. It can be frustrating at times but I
think it’s crucial that we live our own life and not be tempted to follow in the footsteps of the latest weight loss fads.

What do you think? Are you intrigued by these articles? Do you care about what has worked for others and try to apply them to your own wellness routine?

I am so guilty of falling for a lot of this clickbait. I think what gets me more than anything is just sheer curiosity. But then again, time is so limited these days, and it's easy to want a quick solution. Thanks for reminding us that hard work and dedication pays off most in the long run!

I agree with you and Carly. There is no one cut and dry solution. Bodies can't process things the same way. And there is something to be said that we're meant to be certain ways too, although probably fit and healthy works for EVERYONE. I don't try to lose weight often, but I've had two kids. I've been there. For me, low carb works awesomely but it's not like what I pictured it to be. It's low(ER) carb, or just getting them from better places like fruit and yogurt, etc. For other people, that doesn't work!
