Last week I was invited to attend a fun event by The Moms celebrating Rob Lowe’s new book “Love Life” in the middle of Times Square at The Paramount Hotel. This was my first time at the Paramount and it was absolutely beautiful, I may never book a room here but I would love to spend some quality time in the lobby.
The room was full of bloggers and media, and we had some fun treats including new coconut water from AriZona beverages and Skinny Girl Sparkling water that has only 5 calories per bottle.
When Rob arrived, he was just breathtakingly handsome. Sometimes you see celebrities in person and wonder what is the big deal? In this case, Rob was the real deal. The best part about the Q&A session was that he kept all of us girls in stitches the entire time.
Read below for some of the Q&A with Rob Lowe about his new book “Love Life” (Questions are not from me, from bloggers in the room):
So now that you have tackled the non fiction book area, have you had any thoughts about moving into fiction?
I was going to write a fiction novel as my second book. It was really something I wanted to do. I was talked out of it by people who know the industry better than I do and I am glad that I wrote Love, Life. I had way more to share than I thought that I did.
So I spent much of my first honeymoon reading your first book, loved it, spent way too much time with it. What more could there possibly be?
The first book ends with the west wing. There were some things that I wanted to put in the first book but couldn’t. It would overshadow was the book was about. For example there is a full chapter about when I was 19 and invited to the Playboy Mansion. This book is more me.
Have you monitored your kids social media?
Remember when not getting them to watch TV was the issue? Now it’s the phone and the texting and it’s a real issue! The texting explosion that is now that is so much a part of the fabric—they missed. I don’t know how I feel now about seeing kids in restaurants with Ipads. I am glad I didn’t have to deal with that.
My thing is communication, I still like a written thank you note…I need my texts to have proper punctuation. I shame the kids, no “lols” allowed!
Your book is called “Love Life” have you ever considered doing a romance novel?
I think that is a hard genre to do. I loved doing “about last night”, it’s a very tough nut to crack.
You name drop a lot of people in the book, were you nervous about mentioning someone?
I think no news is good news.I was trying to find a balance with the fact that you are around a lot of other figures in the business. The way I craft the stories is if someone is going to look like an idiot…I am going to look like a BIGGER idiot. So it works.
Are there any actors or actresses that you would want the opportunity to work with?
I honestly feel like there is way more to be accomplished than has been accomplished. You always feel like there is more to be done, not in a regretful way but in a optimistic way. As kids we are always like “I wanna try, I wanna try” and somewhere along the line we lose that—for good reason.I met my idol Robert Redford at the Golden Globes this year. I’ve had a lot of good stuff happen to me but every once in a while I’ll take a step back and reflect on how far I have come.
It was so refreshing to see a man be so free with his love for his wife and family. Very rate do you see celebrities that stay married for 23 years! I can’t wait to read the book!
