What ingredients do you need for this 20 Minute One Pot Pasta recipe?

One Pot Tomato Basil Pasta Ingredients
linguine pasta
diced tomatoes with liquid ( I used zesty red pepper flavor style)
sweet onion, cut in 1/4 inch julienne strips (use an onion such as Vidalia or Walla Walla)
garlic, very thinly sliced
red pepper flakes
dried oregano leaves
vegetable broth (use regular broth and NOT low sodium)
extra virgin olive oil
basil, diced
Parmesan cheese for garnish
Where can you serve this delicious pasta recipe?
This 20 Minute One Pot Pasta can be served as a main course for dinner, or as a side dish with some grilled chicken or fish.

It’s easy enough to make that you could serve it up on Meatless Monday night and the whole family will love it! You could also bring this dish to a potluck gathering – just double the recipe and you’ll have enough for everyone to enjoy!

What are the steps for making this One Pot Pasta?
Place pasta, tomatoes, onion, and garlic in a large stock pot. Pour in vegetable broth. Sprinkle on top the pepper flakes and oregano. Drizzle top with oil.

Cover pot and bring to a boil. Reduce to a low simmer and keep covered and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes or so. Cook until almost all liquid has evaporated – I left about an inch of liquid in the bottom of the pot – but you can reduce as desired.

Season to taste with salt and pepper. Add basil leaves and stir pasta several times to distribute the liquid in the bottom of the pot evenly throughout the pasta as you are serving. Serve garnished with Parmesan cheese.
What are some helpful tips for making this easy weeknight recipe?
– Be sure to use the correct amount of vegetable broth. Too much will make your pasta watery and too little will make it dry and crunchy.

– Be sure to stir every few minutes while cooking, as this helps to distribute the liquid in the bottom of the pot evenly throughout the pasta.
– Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper after cooking.
– Use fresh basil for a great flavor – it really boosts the flavor of this dish!
– Finally, serve your 20 Minute One Pot Pasta with some crusty bread and/or a simple side salad for a complete meal.

Can you make this tomato basil pasta ahead of time?
Yes, you can make this recipe up to a day ahead of time. Simply prepare everything but the basil and Parmesan cheese. When ready to serve, cover and reheat on medium heat for about 10 minutes stirring often until heated through. Then stir in the basil leaves, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and serve.

What are some fun variations for this one pot pasta?
This tomato basil pasta is just one of many possible versions. Get creative and try adding vegetables like mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach.
You can also swap out the vegetable broth for chicken broth, add some cooked sausage or beef, or use a different type of pasta such as penne or farfalle. So many possibilities!
Enjoy!

I totally make a similar pasta dish and love it, because it is so easy to make, but so tasty, too 🙂
yes! I just love how quick it is 🙂
I love tomatoes in my pasta I don’t know why it taste so much better with it I even add broccoli to it also or something green.
broccoli and spinach are so good in pasta!
Oh this looks awesome! I would totally make this! Pasta is so easy and quick. Besides pasta, I love making Mexican because it usually comes together pretty easy!
yeah made mexican tonight and it was heaven.
Thank you for this tasty-looking recipe. Although pasta make me feel icky/bloaty, I’ll just sub it out and use spaghetti squash instead. Adding this to my lunchtime food-prepped meal plans for next week. NOM!
fantastic!
This looks delicious – I love pasta!! I would probably add some chicken and call it dinner!!
Yes if I ate chicken I would totally do that for added protein!
You’re going to make me turn back into a pasta lover. I really do love pasta, but as we talked about last week, I need to pair it with a lot of protein and veggies. You do such great recipes with your pasta.
I don’t have a favorite quick recipe! I’m a dreadful cook. Does ordering pizza count?
OF COURSE ordering pizza counts!! (at least to me :))
I just made a variation of this dish last week! Lately, I’ve been looking at the Budget Bytes blog a lot, and she did a variation of this exact recipe dubbed “Italian Wonderpot”. Instead of using basil, she used spinach which is a powerhouse veggie. The kids didn’t like it as much as the Husband and I did. They probably would have preferred basil. On another note, I can’t imagine not being a pasta person. It’s in my blood!
Ahhh its so good. I really love the basil but I love spinach too! I will need to try that for sure next time.
This looks delish and do-able! I’m on it!
its so good Steph!
Nellie, this looks so good. Have you linked it up with our Tasty Tuesdays? The party is still open till tomorrow…I hope you will if you haven’t already!
I totally missed it. SMH. It was a crazy week! Next time for sure. That was an amazing hop.
Hey Britt!! Yeah while you were away I implemented tasty thursdays…this is my 4th recipe! I used to do it years ago and decided to bring it back!
Did you say pasta, one bowl, AND 20 minutes? Oh yes…I’m all over this recipe! I would want to add meat to it, but then that would make this dish harder than it has to be! Thank you for sharing Nellie!
I am soooo making this! It looks amazing!!
