Instant Pot Chili: Cozy Comfort in a Fraction of the Time!

Hello, chili lovers! Today, I’m sharing a recipe that’s bound to become a staple in your kitchen—the ultimate Instant Pot Chili. This is comfort food at its best, with ground beef, a medley of beans, and a kick from diced tomatoes and green chilies. What makes it even better? It’s all done in the Instant Pot, cutting your cooking time without sacrificing any of the flavors!

Why This Recipe Works

Speed and simplicity are the essence of this recipe. The Instant Pot does a fantastic job of melding the flavors as if they’ve been slow-cooked for hours. The beef becomes tender, and the spices from the chili seasoning mix infuse every bite. The beans add texture, while the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes provide a tangy backdrop, making each spoonful a flavor explosion.

Can I use ground turkey instead of beef?

Absolutely! Ground turkey works wonderfully for a lighter version.

What if I don’t have chili seasoning mix?

You can make your own with a blend of cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and a pinch of cayenne.

Can I make it vegetarian?

Of course! Replace the beef with an extra can of beans or some textured vegetable protein.

Easy Chili Toppings to Add to your Instant Pot Chili

I think we can all agree that one of the best ways to eat chili is to pile it high with toppings. It’s also great because you can literally change up every bowl of chili by changing up the toppings that you add as well.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Sauté Onions and Beef: Start by sautéing the onions and beef directly in the Instant Pot for better flavor.
  2. Use Quality Beef Broth: A good beef broth elevates the entire dish.
  3. Cornstarch is Your Friend: If you like your chili a bit thicker, don’t skip the cornstarch. It gives the chili a nice body without altering the flavor.

  • Spicy Chili: Add a diced jalapeño or a teaspoon of red pepper flakes.
  • Meat Lovers: Include some diced bacon or sausage for extra meaty goodness.
  • Bean Varieties: Feel free to mix and match your favorite beans.

Where to Serve

This Instant Pot chili is perfect for weeknight dinners, potlucks, game days, and even casual dinner parties. It’s a hit wherever it goes!

Leftover chili can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Just be sure to let it cool to room temperature first.

Some of the chili toppings that are my favorites include:

  • Shredded Cheese
  • Diced Jalapenos
  • Chopping Onions
  • Sour Cream
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Croutons

And more! You can add on any type of toppings that you want and make it taste unique every single time.

Can you freeze chili for later?

You can! This is also why making a big batch of chili is a great idea. If you have a ton leftover, don’t fret. Just add the chili to a freezer-safe container and pop it in your freezer to safe for later. This means that you can literally have chili all year long!

One tip to keep in mind is that you might want to freeze your chili in batches so that you can unthaw a tiny amount at a time to eat and spread it out over time. This will also help to make it last longer as well.

Common Problems and How to Avoid Them

  • Too Watery: Make sure to use the cornstarch-water mix to reach your desired consistency.
  • Lack of Flavor: Don’t forget to season well. A pinch of salt and pepper can go a long way.
  • Overcooking the Beef: Use the Instant Pot settings as directed to avoid overcooking the meat, making it tough.

Tips for Making this Recipe with Kids

  1. Measuring Spices: Let the kids measure and pour the chili seasoning mix.
  2. Stirring Duty: Kids love stirring; just make sure they’re careful when the Instant Pot is hot.
  3. Bean Pouring: Little hands can help add the beans into the pot.
