Our Trip To Universal Studios Orlando – Part One #FamilyForward

by Nellie

I love to travel—who doesn’t?

I don’t travel much with the kids because, hello, FOUR airfares—but when I do I want to make sure it is EPIC, and that it will be an experience that they never forget. After last year’s amazing Family Forward trip I knew I had to do it again. The crazy part was that my youngest who was 2.5 last year STILL remembers all of the great times and fun rides. He told US more about what we did last year than we even remembered. I’m so glad I took him and his brother and didn’t wait until they were older to enjoy Orlando.

The flight

Last year the flight was a bit rough with a 2.5 year old and a 5 year old. I have since wised up—I came prepared with snacks, My eldest’s new Leap Pad and cars for my youngest. This time we managed the flight MUCH better and the “baby” even fell asleep! I also learned that it’s so much better to have one parent sit with each child on opposite sides.

The arrival

We arrived to the beautiful Loews Royal Pacific Hotel with 5 minutes to spare at 4:55pm. The Children’s Miracle Network was sponsoring an awesome superhero party and we did NOT want to miss a second! When we arrived there were capes and eye masks for all!

The cool part is that we got to build toiletry kits and write letters with another family for children that are currently residing in the hospital. It was a great volunteer activity for the children to start of the vacation with!Family Forward 2015-7843 Family Forward 2015-7847

Next we were treated to dinner at Universal Studios! As we arrived we were greeted by legendary beauties Betty Boop and Marilyn Munroe. We sat and started eating, more and more characters started arriving! There was Gru & the Minions, Popeye, Shrek, Woody & Winnie Woodpecker and more!

The most interesting character was Shaggy—the dude sat with us for an extended period of time and we chatted about everything from living in New York to doing the Whip & Nae Nae. He even mentioned how his hair was “on fleek”. smh.

The evening ended with 2 hours private party inside of Hogsmeade! We got on the Hogwarts Express and made our way over to the other park which is just the coolest!Family Forward 2015-7882

There was dessert too!

There ended Day One of Family Forward! Stay tuned for Part 2 that includes creative fun with Doh Vinci, Cruising Fun, and a unforgettable night at Wet N’ Wild.

That picture of Shaggy scaring you is fantastic! My boys would have loved to meet Shaggy as Scooby Doo is still high on their list of favorites.
Definitely separating the kids on the plane is the way to go. Of course I had Vaughn who was awake the whole time and my husband had Miles who immediately passed out and slept for the entire flight. Seriously? #NotFair

I have to admit the iPads were a godsend for traveling from NY to Orlando this summer by plane and couldn’t agree more with you. We are planning on hopefully doing this again next summer and you can bet we will be taking the iPads again with us for the girls. Oh and by the way, we didn’t do Universal, but truly hope to get to see the Harry Potter stuff there at some point, because such a huge Harry Potter buff to be quite honest, but think you already knew this about me! 😉

What.a.blast! I’m so bummed we missed this year’s (last year was incredible) but I’m living vicariously through your posts and pics. So glad the boys had a blast and so remarkable that your youngest son remembers things from last year at such an early age…I can’t remember what I ate yesterday! The Children’s Miracle Network has a special spot in my heart and I’m glad they were at Family Forward.

haha Shaggy!! What does “on fleek” even mean?? I’m feeling old!
We had so much fun in Universal Studios and we’re headed for our third year in a row in January. Hogsmeade = a great time.

Oh my gosh flying with kids can be such a nightmare. When we flew back to Brazil in August, Pete was in 1st class and I was in economy with Cooper. I was really struggling with him on my own, especially because it was really really late so he was getting a bit crazy. The flight attendant actually said something really snippy to me about him being unsafe in the bassinet because I was having trouble controlling him wanting to crawl out and balance the food and drink they were serving me all at the same time. I almost punched the guy. Please tell me it gets better! This trip looks so amazing!!!

Look at your adorable little superheroes! And so grown up with the haircuts too! Good for you and your family for taking the opportunity to spend some time together. And congrats on having a great flight with two little ones. It’s amazing how snacks and LeapPads can make a huge difference, isn’t it?
