10 Awesome educational apps for kids

Lately I have noticed that the boys are asking for my phone a lot more. I let them check out the YouTube Kids app which has plenty of educational clips but I really was in the market for full apps (both free and paid) so the kids could have a choice of what they wanted to play with.

I don’t let them get the phone often, really only while we are travelling on the trains or at home after all homework is done. I am not the biggest fan of apps that are more like video games so I compiled a list of apps that are not only educational but are fun too!

I've always wanted the Disney Junior app! It looks fantastic. Scarlet is next to me right now and she is so intrigued by your post! I've been reading blogs with her for 20 minutes and this one perked her right up.

Another well-timed post! We've been looking for more apps for T, but have a hard time finding things that aren't too young for her, or are engaging and challenging enough. I know you like to avoid video-game type apps, but T has loved a game called Cut the Rope. It really challenges her with regards to critical thinking and problem solving - while not feeling so much like school. And that's from a kid who loves to do math papers for fun.

great list, when my daughter was younger the "alphabet song" was her favorite. I also like to get her books on my nook that can read to her. I am going to checkout a few of these that I wasn't familiar with like the "little fox music box'. Can she sing Kukare with it LOL

These are great suggestions! It's a shame that so many good ones are only available on Apple products.

Its strange when my kids don't ask for their tablet. I have a lot of educational apps on my sons tablet. My daughters tablet broke so she is using mine and I don't even remember some of the apps I had on her tablet so we are starting over with apps.
