St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispie Treats
These St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispie treats are so much fun and festive! With only a few ingredients you can make boring rice krispie treats into a fun holiday snack!

St. Patrick’s day has always been one of those holidays where I’m not really quite sure what to do other than wear green. I’ve got another fun way for you to celebrate this year, with these super cute St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispie Treats that require no baking and minimal decorating skills.
St. Patrick’s Day snuck up on me the first year I had kids in school. One day I’m minding my business, the next I’m getting a class note about a holiday party and I have approximately 48 hours to figure out what to bring.
That’s how these St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispie Treats were born — not from hours of planning, but from a “what can I make with almost nothing” moment that turned out way cuter than it had any right to be.
No baking. No special decorating skills. Five minutes of hands-on time. You dip store-bought Rice Krispie Treats in melted chocolate, drizzle green icing over the top, hit them with some festive sprinkles, and suddenly you have a treat that looks like you actually tried. Stick them on lollipop sticks and they become party-ready.
Now I have three kids in school and I make these every single March. They never get old.

What ingredients are needed for these fun treats?
- 8 ct package of Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats
- 12 oz package of Wilton Chocolate Candy Melts
- Wilton green icing
- Green & White St. Patty’s Day Sprinkles
- 8 lollipop sticks
INGREDIENT NOTES
Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats (8-count package) — Use the full package. You’ll get 8 treats total, all on sticks, all dipped. The individual-wrapped bars are the right size and hold up well to dipping without falling apart.
Wilton Chocolate Candy Melts (12 oz) — Don’t substitute chocolate chips here. Candy melts are formulated to melt smoothly and set with a firm snap — chocolate chips need additional fat added or they can seize up or stay tacky. The 12 oz bag is the right amount for dipping 8 treats with a little leftover.
Wilton Green Icing tube — This is the pre-made squeeze tube, not gel food coloring. You’ll find it in the baking aisle near the decorating supplies. Microwave it for 10 seconds to make it easier to drizzle in a thin stream.
Green and white sprinkles — Joann Fabrics and Michaels carry St. Patrick’s Day-specific mixes. Target also carries seasonal sprinkles in late February. If you can’t find them, any combination of green and white sprinkles works.
Lollipop sticks — 6-inch sticks work best for this size treat. Insert them into the bottom (short end) of each bar before chilling so they set firmly before you dip.

How To Make These Treats
Set up your station first. Line a large baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Lay out your sprinkles in a small bowl so they’re ready to go — once the chocolate sets it moves fast and you want sprinkles on before it firms up.
Insert the sticks and chill. Open all 8 treats and insert a lollipop stick into the bottom center of each one. Place them on the lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 20 minutes. This step is important — cold treats dip cleanly and the chocolate sets faster on contact.
Melt the candy melts. Pour the full 12 oz bag into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each one, until completely smooth. Don’t rush this — overheating candy melts makes them thick and grainy. Two to three rounds of 30 seconds is usually enough.
Dip halfway. Hold each treat by the stick and dip it into the melted chocolate, coating about half the treat. Let the excess drip back into the bowl — tilting and gently tapping your wrist helps. Set the dipped treat back on the parchment. Repeat with all 8.
Let the chocolate set. This takes about 5–10 minutes at room temperature, or a few minutes back in the fridge. Don’t add the icing drizzle until the chocolate is firm — otherwise it all runs together.
Drizzle the green icing. Microwave the icing tube for 10 seconds, then knead it gently. Snip or open the tip and drizzle over the chocolate-dipped portion in a back-and-forth motion. Work quickly — the icing starts to firm up as it cools.
Sprinkle immediately. Add the green and white sprinkles right after the icing, while it’s still wet. Press gently so they stick. Let everything set completely before serving or packaging.

TIPS
Chill before dipping, not after. The 20-minute fridge step before dipping matters. Room-temperature treats are softer and the stick can pull loose when you’re handling them. Cold treats dip cleanly and hold their shape.
Stir the candy melts constantly. Between every microwave round, stir from the bottom. The chocolate can look unmelted on top but be fully melted underneath — over-microwaving from there gives you a grainy mess.
One dip, let it drip. Don’t double-dip trying to get more coverage. Let the excess run off naturally. A second pass drags the first coat and looks uneven.
Work in batches for the sprinkles. Drizzle icing on 2–3 treats at a time, then sprinkle immediately before moving to the next batch. If you drizzle all 8 first the first ones will be set before you get to them.
Make them ahead. These hold well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. No refrigeration needed once the chocolate and icing are fully set.

VARIATIONS
Shamrock shaped. Use shamrock-shaped RKT molds or press homemade Rice Krispie mixture into a shamrock cookie cutter before dipping. Same technique, more festive shape.
White chocolate dip. Swap the milk chocolate melts for white chocolate candy melts and add green food coloring to tint them. Fully green treats with green icing on top are extra festive.
Rainbow drizzle. Skip the green icing and use red, orange, yellow, and blue icing tubes to drizzle a rainbow across the top. Works well as a companion to the St. Patrick’s Day theme without being identical to your other rainbow treats.
Sprinkle only, no icing. If you’re making these with very young kids, skip the icing drizzle entirely and just press green and gold sprinkles directly into the wet chocolate before it sets. Easier, still festive.
Gold coin finish. After the icing sets, press a few gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins onto the treat or use gold luster dust for a shimmer effect. Leans into the pot of gold theme.

FAQs
Yes. Make a standard batch, press into a pan, let it set completely, then cut into rectangles similar in size to the individual Kellogg’s bars. Make sure they’re fully cooled and firm before inserting sticks — warm homemade treats will fall apart during dipping.
Any pre-made decorating icing in a squeeze tube works. You can also make a quick drizzle icing from 1 cup powdered sugar, 1–2 tablespoons milk, and green gel food coloring — whisk until smooth and pour into a zip-lock bag with a tiny corner snipped off.
You can, but you’ll need to add 1–2 teaspoons of coconut oil or shortening to help it melt smoothly and set properly. Pure chocolate chips can stay slightly tacky or seize when melted alone. Candy melts are easier and more reliable for dipping.
Up to 3 days ahead. Store in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature. They don’t need refrigeration once set and the chocolate can develop condensation in the fridge, which affects the finish.
No — you can skip the sticks and just serve them flat on a platter. The sticks make them easier for kids to hold and look more finished for parties, but they’re completely optional.
Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening and stir to thin them out. This can happen if the melts were slightly overheated. Don’t add water — even a small amount of water will cause chocolate and candy melts to seize completely.
The Kellogg’s store-bought RKTs are nut-free, but always check the current package label as formulations change. Wilton candy melts and Wilton icing are produced in facilities that may process tree nuts — check the packaging and contact the manufacturer if you’re making these for a child with severe allergies.
These St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispie Treats are proof that the best class party contributions aren’t the complicated ones — they’re the ones that look impressive and take almost no time. Five minutes of real work, a little chill time, and you’ve got 8 festive treats on sticks that kids will actually be excited about.

These are quite frankly adorable, easy and perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. I am totally going to have to try to make these as my girls just love Rice Krispie Treats here. By the way, I am not getting any updates to new articles on BlogLovin or through your newsletter either. This looks easy but lately my kids are hating on rice krispy treats for some reason. I bet if I cover it in chocolate they will love it.
