So I told you guys I had BIG news!
I am so excited to announce that I will be officially serving as a social media ambassador for the 2016 TCS NYC Marathon! OMG. ME.
I am sufficiently in shock, still, and I got the news a few weeks ago. When I was offered the position there might have been some insane squealing, obscene dancing, and chants of “SERIOUSLY?!” ala the first four seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.
To say the least, I’m over the moon.
I guess I’m so excited about this because I’ve been obsessed with this race for as long as I can remember. Since I was a kid I remember curling up in my very warm bed watching the race with complete awe. Reading the incredible stories, watching the leader pack unfold, the crazy costumes, and of course the bridges. The gorgeous bridges.
Never in a million years did I actually think I’d complete a marathon. It seemed SO impossible and out of my grasp. It was like one of those things that only happens inside of the television. Then in my early 20s I randomly volunteered for the marathon at a water station at mile 12. I was quite traumatized after that experience, as I was right next to a medic and seeing the people stop for all kinds of pain, ankle twists, cramps was completely insane and enough to really make me believe that this running life was NOT for me.
Yet, here I am.
Training for this marathon has been less of a bucket of ice water than it was last year. I am SO excited to share the rest of my journey (come on 9 weeks!) with everyone as I have been doing here, except more in detail. There are fun themes that accompany the ambassadorship and I can’t wait to share! I’ll even be taking over the NYRR Snapchat for a day!
I am so excited to represent for my city, share my intense love for this race and the ups and downs of my training journey. This is officially started from the bottom now we are HERE. From poo-poo’ing 5ks just 3 years ago to running my second marathon this is a really big achievement for me and I am crazy excited about it. Thank you New York Road Runners, I’ll be sure to make you proud!

On that happy note, I am headed back to the Family Forward Conference with my family and I will officially be back next Tuesday! Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend everyone!!

Whoo Hoo! You should’ve filmed and posted your happy dance. I think we all would have loved to see that. Hehe! It’s definitely natural fit for you. Congrats.
That’s HUGE! Congrats girly!. I have a few friends who are doing it this year. Can’t wait to hear the rest of your journey. You continue to inspire…
Pretty amazing!! I’m so glad you didn’t wait too long to tell us your big news.
What have I done that I never thought I’d do? Have two kids! Have a cat! Start two businesses!
Amazing! I didn’t get in this year but I’m hoping for 2017! You’re going to be an awesome ambassador!
That’s awesome, congrats! I find every year I am doing things I never thought I would do – running a half marathon, running a marathon, signing up for a 2nd marathon, climbing mountains!
Congrats! I think all the fitness companies should hire you…I’m just saying!
Awesomeness! You rock Nellie! I will be right there in 1st avenue again waiting to cheer you on…this team I will have all the bells, whistles, signs and cheerleaders with me!?Congratulations! Keep doing big things!
SO EXCITING!!!!! I can’t wait to see everything you post! 🙂 🙂
So happy to hear the great news about your status for the upcoming New York City marathon. Marathon preparation can be intense but rewarding. 🙂
So cool Nellie!!!
what have I done that I thought I could never do? A few things:
Run a marathon (number 6 is in 3 weeks)
learn another language fluently
live in another country (22 years in the Netherlands now)
Go back to school to change my career path, in my 2nd language
thing is, once you do ONE thing that you thought you could never do, suddenly you realise that you can actually do whatever it is that you want to do, you just maybe have to work harder to achieve it (than say someone else).
Congratulations!!!! This event is so you. And I love that you are out there showing that even people who don’t think they can run really can. Keep up the great training work, and I can’t wait to see your race results!
Thanks, I’m just out here running for the regular people which is actually a blog post I’ve been working on lol
Congrats! That is SO awesome! The NYC Marathon was my dream race and I was able to run it in 2015 and it was AMAZING! I’m already reigniting my dream and am ready to go back in 2017. There is truly NOTHING like NY!
I look forward to keeping up with your posts! 🙂
Thank you so much! 2015 was pretty great wasn’t it? I hope the weather is just as perfect, (maybe a tinge cooler 😉 )
