I’ve got to to give it to Kevin Hart. He is making a huge difference in communities across the country by bringing health and fitness right to people in a universal way.
The insanely funny comedian has been hosting 5ks all over the country throughout the entire 2015. The free events sponsored by Nike reached capacity within minutes every single time, and each time I wanted to go but I had prior commitments. When I saw that he would be doing a Bootcamp style workout (on a Saturday!) I didn’t hesitate to sign up.
When I arrived I was quite stunned. The workout would be held in a huge warehouse location and there were a LOT of people present. I mean A LOT!
While approaching the end of the line I saw my friend Sherri (remember when we randomly hooked up at the Brooklyn Half?) it happened again! She was sweet enough to squeeze me in with her and we went through several lines before we were finally in what looked like an arena. There were nine stations with what seemed like a minimum of 50 people at each station (could have easily been more!!). We were at station 9 with some of the lovely BGR ladies.
I checked my coat, jeans, jacket and put on my new–dope–Move with Hart tee. We snacked on Kind Bars and took so many pics while we waited.
Each station was led by official Master Nike Trainers. We would be spending 2 minutes in each station completing a HIIT workout with some pretty cool moves. We started with some knee up hops, moved on to some forward lunges with a curtsy lunge and so much more. My heart rate was all the way up and I was pouring sweat by station 3.
It was not only fun to be there but really to see the amazing camaraderie of people. It wasn’t about who could squat the best or who could hold the longest plank, it was about moving your body to the best of your ability. It was awesome.
Once we were done Kevin came out to congratulate us and take another selfie. We were treated to yogurt with a full toppings bar as well as fresh pressed juice. So good!
We took more pics (of course) and headed out for the day. It was a really fun fitness experience plus it taught me some new moves that I can do at home. Even moreso it was a perfect way to start the new year!
