How to Get Yourself to Workout When You REALLY Don’t Want To

We all have these days when working out is literally the LAST thing you want to do but deep down you know your mind and body needs it. Trust me it has happened to me many times–I have these grand plans to workout, and somehow I no longer want to do it. It could be that I’m not in the mood, the weather is bad, I’ve got work to do, or maybe I simply just want to lay down on the couch and binge watch something new.
I’ve been there many many times. I have found several ways to overcome this–sometimes it takes one sometimes it takes all. Hopefully it can help you too!

How to Get Yourself to Workout When You REALLY Don’t Want To

Put on the clothes: putting on workout clothes has magical powers. When you put on your favorite fitness gear magic happens. It’s a great way to start getting into the right headspace for a workout.
Set your playlist: Think of the song that makes you want to dance in that moment. The song will vary from day to day. Then use Spotify, Pandora (Your favorite music app) to create a playlist that is inspired by that song. Just like that you have a full playlist full of songs guaranteed to make you want to MOVE!
Set a smaller goal than your real goal: There have been many long run day where I pretty much knew that I didn’t have “it” to run 8, 10, 15 miles. Instead I set a smaller limit, usually half of my overall goal. Most times, I feel good enough to push past the smaller limit and and completing the original goal!
Get some workout inspiration: I have a pinterest board that I keep for this specific reason. Whenever I need to I dip in there for some fitspo as some may call it. The thing is, fitspo looks different for every single person. It’s a very personal choice about what inspires you to move. Find what it is and have it on hand for when you need some extra motivation!
Endorphins are healing: Endorphins are amazing. Most times when I don’t feel like pushing through a workout, I end up feeling like a million bucks and SO happy that I decided to go through it.

With 30g of protein, only 160 calories and 1g of sugar, Premier Protein shakes have nutrients you can’t beat. I personally love to blend them together with my fav frozen fruits and veggies for a yummy smoothie!

What do you do to get yourself in the mood for exercise? Do you do any of these things? How do you get over the hump?

I usually have a race goal to keep me motivated! I also try to workout as soon as the kids leave in the morning so nothing else can get in my way. Another trick I use is to make a workout date with a friend. You’re more likely to go if someone is counting on you and the workout itself is more fun 🙂

As a person who does indeed struggle sometimes to be motivated to workout, I just couldn’t thank you more for the advice and tips on how to move past that here, Nellie!! 😉

Ugh. I feel this way most days. I’m not exactly why, but I feel like baby #3 took the exercise and healthy eating mojo out of me. It’s so disappointing. But the best thing is that we can always get back on board. Thanks for the great motivation!

You know I love my protein bars, although I’ve never tried the shakes. I have trouble with motivation a lot. Other times, it’s like nothing can stop me. I wish I could bottle that up!

Yes! I totally set smaller goals if I really don’t feel like working out… Sometimes I’ll say, “I’ll just do 30 minutes…” and then I hit 30 minutes and think, “I’m feeling good, I’ll go for an hour!” Endorphins really are a powerful thing.
