Still need a present for Mom this Christmas? Check out these frugal and fun Christmas gift ideas that Mom will love. Cash can get a little tight around this time of year, so now is the time to be thoughtful! If you’re stuck on frugal gifts for mom, here are some inexpensive and creative ideas that she’ll love. Plus I’m sharing a very easy Instant Pot Pumpkin Apple Cider recipe that the family will love!
Babysitting for Siblings
If mom is young enough to still have kids at home, baby sitting is a great gift. Moms always need more time and free babysitting is a lifesaver. If mom doesn’t have young kids, don’t overlook pet sitting. Even hard core pet lovers need breaks from their little darlings. Give mom coupons for a weekend or night of pet sitting and she’ll love a little me time without worrying about what Spot is doing.
Home Cooked Meals for Mom
When you were growing up Mom probably made hundreds if not thousands of meals for you. Repay the favor with a coupon for a deluxe home cooked made especially for Mom. She’ll appreciate the effort, especially if you show off the cooking skills or recipes that she taught you.
This is *not* a suggestion to go out and buy a random Hummel figurine for mom, unless she actually collects them. But adding to an existing collection is a thoughtful gift. My mom collects turtles and cookbooks. Adding to either collection is easy and can usually be done with a quick jaunt to an antique or thrift shop.
Handmade Journal or Photo Album
The web is full of step by step directions to make your own photo album or journal. If you don’t want to go all out from scratch, decorate the front of an existing journal with a family photo collage or fill a store bought album with family photos.
Record Mom’s Favorite Shows
Hardly anyone uses VCR’s anymore, but there are recordable DVD players and DVR top set boxes. Pre-record whole seasons for mom of her favorite shows or pledge to make sure her programs get recorded properly all year long in the coming year.
Time for Mom
Moms are busy, no matter their age. Give mom the gift of time by taking over chores she would usually do herself. If you don’t live at home, give a coupon that pledges your weekly time for Mom’s chores. A weekly trip to mom to help her with grocery shopping, yard work or house work makes mom feel pampered and leaves her with time to watch all those shows you recorded for her.
These are only a few of the creative ideas that make great gifts for moms. If you have kids, get together with the whole family to think up ideas for Grandma this year. Mothers truly love gifts where “it’s the thought that counts.” And don’t forget Mom’s Christmas Stocking, especially if she’s the one that usually plays Santa. (That’s even if they have a stocking because I don’t!)

This is your favorite apple cider with a fun twist to warm you up during the cold winter months!
- 1 large container apple cider (28 to 32 oz)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup pumpkin
- Place all the ingredients into the instant pot. We are not going to use pressure. Use the saute mode to bring to a low boil. About 3 to 5 minutes after the pot warms up.
- If using the recipe with pumpkin whisk the pumpkin once it heats up. This will break down the pumpkin and the cinnamon.
- Turn off the saute mode and set to keep warm. This will keep it warm to serve for guests. It will need to cool off for the younger kids.
