What To Do When Healthy Eating Gets Derailed

When you work full time and have a million other things going on, eating right can be quite tricky. The best (and most recommended) thing to do is plan all your meals, prepare the right snacks and of course drink your water every single day.

Sounds easy right?

Except it’s not. Buying and preparing meals on the weekend is hard, it requires a lot of time, research and skill. Add kids into the mix and it is even more difficult. If you are in a client facing position like mine, you sometimes have lunch meetings and coffee meetings and all kinds of other interactions that can derail you from your perfect plan pretty fast. These commitments usually end up running over, throwing your whole schedule off track.

Working in an office setting the inevitably means that the busy is never ending–there are constant unscheduled meetings, fires that need to be put out, and so many other unexpected distractions. When you have a healthy living plan in place this can be tough to manage. My solution is to make sure you are always prepared and have the right snacks in your bag at all times.

There have been so many times when I’ve been stuck on a non moving train with nothing to eat. Commuting back and forth to work everyday has its challenges so one thing I have been doing lately is carrying a Pure Protein Chocolate Salted Caramel bar in my purse. They only have 3 grams of sugar plus 19 grams of pure whey protein. I usually have half a bar to hold me over when hunger strikes until I can finally get home and cook dinner.

Derailers are those things that we can’t control that get in the way of our healthy lifestyles. There have been so many times where I have signed up for my favorite spin class and have had to cancel it minutes before because work simply got too hectic.

Now when I can see that things are getting a bit out of control, I can reach into my purse or desk to grab a bite of my favorite flavor Sea Salt Caramel Pure Protein bar, or even bring it into another unscheduled meeting. I love the sea salt caramel flavor in just about anything. Having a few bars on hand for these moments is key to staying on track.

The derailers in the working world are constant and sometimes subtle but it is a whole lot easier when you have a plan and a better solution!

I try so hard to come up with a weekly meal plan and it rarely goes according to plan. I like bars but I usually get discouraged by the sugar count. I might have to give these a try

Great advice and honestly you aren’t alone in this as I have my fair share of struggles with staying healthy with running around and not having time always to meal plan, too. Will have to give these a try now and thanks for sharing, Nellie!! 😉

I am in Florida this week so I know my eating will be shot…..day one wasn’t good they had a cinnabon right outside our door *cries* I try to drink water though…does that help?

Recently my derailer has been being sick constantly due to have a toddler around. It’s hard to eat right when you don’t feel 100%, but I think healthy snacking is soooo important!

Having worked both at home, and in an office environment, I can say that distractions and derailment are everywhere! Love that you’ve figured out how to help combat that problem.
