Bye Bye Baby Weight: Willy Nilly

Bye Bye Baby Weight is a journal of my journey to weight loss after my second pregnancy. This subdivision of Brooklyn Active Mama will tell the highs and lows about recovering my body after my second c-section. The advice and methods are solely my own and if you want to start a diet/ fitness program please consult a physician. I have named my scale Willy. Yes, Willy.

5 weeks Postpartum

Is Willy broken?

The scale has not moved since last week! Bummer.

I have been logging my calories with myfitnesspal and working out at home which is actually something that I detest.

(For those folks out there that work out at home consistently, have a billion workout dvds, amd are self started enough to put the remote down and get active, I SALUTE YOU. I am not that girl.)

I, as you will learn in the future, am a gymrat through and through.I am the highest breed of gymrat. I am that chick that shows up in a 10 year old t-shirt, no makeup, blaring loud ipod, focusing on nothing else but Getting.It.In.

I go to the gym when i’m stressed, happy, indifferent. It is my happy place.

However, after googling all the bad things that can happen when you exercise too soon after a c-section, I decided to wait until I get my 6 week clearance from the doc before jumping back into my nirvana.

I decided to test the waters of my body with some minimal workouts last week on the wii fit, after reading a really informative blog post on how good of a workout it actually is. Last year, I used it only for supplemental purposes, so it was a good place to start nice and slow.

I kicked the **** out of that wii fit.Hold your applause…

Next I tried the Brooke Burke DVD, and proceeded to collapse in a shameful heap. I was insanely a bit bewildered by how hard it was!

Looks like I have found my sweet spot with The Biggest Loser Ultimate Challenge workout for the XBox 360 Kinect. With the varying levels, I can adjust my fitness program to how I feel on that particular day.

(Sidebar: Working out at home with a newborn is tough! Sometimes I get through the whole workout, and sometimes its in 10 minute spurts, I figure as long as I get sweaty, I’ve done something good)

Back to Willy.

Hopefully this week I will see some loss, and really start to see the pounds fall off once I begin really working out at the gym.

Workouts over the past week:
The Biggest Loser Ultimate Fitness Challenge
Cardio Pilates (Netflix)
Brooke Burke – Strengthen and Condition
Wii Fit Plus
Free Weights

Feelings this week:
Disappointed at Willy, but happy for no gain

Not eating enough, and not eating often enough

Managed to workout 5 times last week

How are your workouts going?

  2. Take it ready girl! I’m like you…gym ray w a c section. my doc told me to wait 8 Weeks before even trying anything that I used to do. so I mostly went on long uphill walks with the stroller until 10 Weeks. Started running at 11 Weeks and man, my abs were weak! But after a couple of Weekst hey started feeling normal again. Everyone keeps reminding me to be patient, and it can be really difficult to be so, but they’re right. You’ll get there! Sounds like you’re doing all the right things but don’t over do it!

  3. Keep it up girlie! Working out and tracking calories is no fun. I’m on MFP too if you would like to add me (KimberlyWIOG). I actually hired a trainer to keep me on track some more and he recommended that I try to burn 3500 calories each week. That’s my new goal. He said that should guarantee that your lose some weight each week…. So we’ll see!

  4. It sounds like you are still motivated, so keep up the good work! Just take it one day at a time until you reach your goal. This has been my mantra for the last 4 weeks, and it seems to be working. Also, you are really making me consider getting the Biggest Loser for my Wii!

I’m slacked a bit with the return of cold weather and snow. I have yet to get a smith indoor home routine going. Being fit with a super hot bod is a part of my vision for the new year so I need to up my game.

  6. I am sure once you ate heeled more you will be kicking butt!! Don’t beat up yourself too much…I want Brooke burke’s body…was she wearing skechers in the DVD?! Have a great weekend!!

  7. I am so happy I found your blog. I am currently 5 months post partum annd trying to lose the baby weight. I had to get used to working out at home too. But you are only five weeks pp and you will continue to go down don’t worry.

Keep your head up, you can do it! Sometimes weight gain or a steady weight can have more to do with water retention than anything else. Like if you ate something salty or didn’t drink enough water. Don’t let that get you down! Keep kicking the crap outta that Wii–I’m applauding!

My work outs are non existant at the moment. lol Although I would like to try out that wii fit :)

  10. sounds like you’re doing great. take your time to get back into the swing of things. you’ll get there. Shoot, I’m jealous you worked out 5 times last week. Go you!

  11. Take it easy.. I’m laughing because I did the exact same thing!!! LOL I felt so good after that first run and then by that evening like a brick hit me!!!

I’m 5 mos postpartum and back to my full teaching & running schedule.. achey some days but damn if I don’t feel good!!! nothing a lil biofreeze can’t help!!! good luck on your journey back!

  12. Thanks for the comment!

Try really hard to get up to the MFP caloric level – remember that if you’re too low, your body is holding on to everything it can! What’s been working for me is to set the MFP goal at “maintain” b/c I’m breastfeeding, so I figure if I hit that cal goal, I’m actually 300-500 low, so on track for about a 1#/wk loss.

    Good luck!
