I Finally Took Control Of My Eye Health With Visionworks!

I took my first official vision test of my adult life a few days ago.

I know, I know–You are wondering why on earth would I wait so long to take a proper vision test? I honestly don’t have an answer for that. I’ll tell you though, I’m very happy I did.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and we are coming off of Women’s National Eye Care Month in April. During this season, Visionworks is challenging women everywhere to spring into action and care for their eyes.

I have been getting serious about my self care lately, I don’t know if it is the warmer weather, or simply just a new outlook on life–I’ve been more aware of caring for this one body that I have. Not going to lie, I was a little nervous about my first real official eye exam. I knew how easy it was because my boys went through one a few months ago, but now it was my turn. Would I need glasses? After all my mom started wearing glasses right around this time in her life. It was time to find out! I took the whole family with me on the weekend because we were out and about on a Saturday afternoon. One thing I love about this place is that there is a super calming vibe.  I filled out the paperwork easily and quickly and waited to get seen.

First Part Of Exam

The first part of the exam required me to look into a telescope kind of thing and stare at a picture. After that was complete they blew a little whiff of air in each eye. My husband laughed at this because I jumped a little, not because it hurt, but really because I’m a bit of a scaredy cat. 🙂

Second Part of Exam

The doctor was so nice and happened to be the same gentle doc that treated my boys a few months back. I put a spoon like device over each eye and read the letters, the same way I did in grade school. The doc determined that I have almost perfect vision with a little far sightedness, but nothing to be concerned about. We both mutually decided that I would get some sunglasses because of the strain the sun puts on my eyes (also to hide from creeps on the train).

Shopping for Sunglasses!

Visionworks has a HUGE selection of really cute prescription sunglasses to choose from! I picked up 4 or five different pairs of cat-eye glasses (because those are the ones that look the best on my face).

I ended up with an adorable pair of BeBe sunglasses which should be ready for my trip to Mom 2.0 in just a week!

I am really happy I took the exam and I have to make sure I take it yearly because I want to make sure I see everything (and everyone) as clear as possible.

When was the last time you had a vision exam? Do you wear prescription sunglasses?

It’s funny that we take our kids and neglect ourselves! I hear you. I once went two years without the dentist, and five years without the eye doctor.
I do wear glasses but only for nighttime driving or TV. It’s an option, but I choose to use that option. I feel like I need a stronger prescription at this point and I better go schedule my exam!

Great post – I never thought of all of the issues moisturizers and mascara could cause for vision, yikes!!

Girl, I can’t believe you haven’t done a vision test! We do ours yearly right before school starts. I’m glad you got it done!

This was a great post, but I can’t get passed that this is seriously your first visit as an adult? I go every year on the clock because my eyes are BAD! This year, I opted to get prescription sunglasses. I am happy I did that. Thank you for sharing your experience.

So glad you went! Eye health is often ignored until folks have a hard time seeing. Many don’t realize the importance of regular visits. I have glaucoma and visit the eye dr 4 times a year since high school. Stay in top of it. And you look cute in those frames!
