Last weekend we were invited to see the live theater production Ballerina Swan and The Nutcracker that was put on by the New York City Children’s Theater. I was excited to take the boys, especially my eldest Josh because he has an affinity for theater and the arts.
The Clurman Theater on Theater Row was centrally located in Times Square and it was super close to all the trains. When we arrived there were several theaters in the building and we were guided downstairs. The theater was small and intimate which was perfect because I wouldn’t have to deal with complaints from the kids that they couldn’t see the show.
The story was so fun, so classic and so captivating. The boys didn’t wiggle around or get antsy in their chairs, they were all in from beginning to end.
Interactive Show
The part that made The Ballerina Swan and the Nutcracker awesome was that there was a lot of audience participation. Every few scenes the actors would ask questions of the audience, and ask the audience to clap and make sounds. The BEST part was towards the end when the entire cast came into the audience and grabbed the kids to dance with them. My youngest was being shy, but my oldest, Josh, was right there in the mix.
At the end of the show we were able to take pictures with the cast, who all were so nice!
For 20 Years, New York City Children’s Theater has worked tirelessly in its mission to promote children’s literacy and social development through professional theater productions and arts-in-education program. We reach children and their communities with full-scale productions, small touring shows, interactive workshops and in-school residences.
I would highly recommend you catch the Ballerina Swan & the Nutcracker this holiday season, it is a good time for the whole family! For more information on the New York City Children’s Theater you can check out their website here.

WOW! What a fantastic experience for all of you. My boys would absolutely love that. We’re currently trying to plan a “Christmas day in the city” so I will be looking into getting tix to this for sure!! Thanks Nellie and oh my God those boys!!! xo
I have always wanted to attend a play and I think they have one here in Atlanta. I would have to take my daughter because the girl….will be a nope!

This is my favorite one!
This helps me because Scarlet is in two performances this weekend and they’re long shows. We did buy Des a ticket but hesitated at first. I think he’ll be great!
Great article. I would love to see a play or a dance in the Big Apple. So beautiful!
xx!
I absolutely loved this! I can’t wait to take my little one to NYC to enjoy the holiday festivities.Don’t think he’ll get much since he’s only 5 months, but it’s still nice to see Christmas through his eyes. I had no idea they had an interactive show. I’ll have to look into it.
5 months already!!! omg!
