Nope, not for this recipe! One of the best parts about homemade apple pie is how the apples soften naturally as they bake. This way, the apples still keep a little bit of bite while soaking up all those cozy flavors.
The secret is all about balance—sweet apples, tart apples, and a buttery, flaky crust. In this recipe, we use a mix of sugar and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg that make the apples taste like pure fall goodness. And don’t forget that flaky homemade pie crust. It’s really what takes this pie from “good” to “grandma would be proud.”
The apples, of course! You can’t have apple pie without the apples shining front and center. A mix of apple varieties works best—something tart like Granny Smith plus something sweet like Honeycrisp or Gala. Together they make the filling taste just right, not too sweet and not too tangy.
If we’re being funny and technical, you’d have to invent the universe first.
