One thing that is always true? Everyone loves Rice Krispy treats. And during the Halloween season, they are definitely not scarce. These rice Krispy treats have a twist though and instead of making them in their usual marshmallow flavor, I’ve made these rice krispy treats with a yummy orange and black frosting.

  • Can I use regular Rice Krispies instead of the Rice Krispie Cereal brand?

    • Absolutely! Different brands will work, but the classic Rice Krispies do have a signature taste.
  • Can I replace vanilla buttercream with homemade rice krispies icing?

    • Yes, though store-bought vanilla buttercream (which you can find in your local grocery store) offers convenience, a homemade version would taste delightful!
  • Where can I buy candy eyes or candy corn?

    • Most local grocery stores will stock them around this time of year, especially as Halloween approaches.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Use parchment paper or wax paper to press the rice krispies treats into the pan. This prevents sticking and ensures even pressing.
  • When melting candy melts, do it in second intervals, stirring in between to avoid overheating.
  • If your candy melts get too thick, adding a tiny bit of paramount crystals, coconut oil, or vegetable oil can help thin it out.

  • Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats: Use orange food coloring to tint the marshmallow mixture, then form them into pumpkin shapes.
  • Frankenstein Rice Krispies: Add green candy melts into your mix and then shape into rectangles. Use black frosting and candy eyeballs to decorate.
  • Monster Rice Krispie Treats: Dip in different colors of melted chocolate chips and add candy eyeballs for a monstrous effect!

Where to Serve:

These festive treats are the perfect addition to Halloween parties, classroom events, and even Halloween potlucks. There’s no better way to get into the Halloween spirit!

Place the treats in an airtight container, ensuring they’re at room temperature before sealing. They will stay fresh for up to 5 days.

Common Problems and How to Avoid Them:

  • Too sticky: Ensure you’ve coated your hands or spatula with nonstick cooking spray or butter when pressing the mixture into a pan.
  • Too hard: Don’t overcook the marshmallow mixture! Keep it on medium heat and ensure it doesn’t boil for too long.

Tips for Making this Recipe with Kids:

  • Let them add the candy eyes and Halloween sprinkles – it’s much fun!
  • Use lollipop sticks to make rice krispies pops, which kids love to decorate.

Topping Options:

  • White Melted Chocolate: Drizzle over the treats for added sweetness.
  • Halloween Sprinkles: Adds color and festive fun!
  • Candy Corn & Mini Reese’s Cups: Push these into your Rice Krispie Treats for an added treat.

Why This Recipe Works:

This Halloween rice krispies recipe combines the comforting taste of homemade rice krispie treats with fun Halloween elements. The addition of Oreos gives an unexpected crunch, and the candy melts (in black and orange) allow for creative, spooky decorations. Given the season, the only reason not to make these easy peasy Halloween delights is if you’ve been lured away by Halloween popcorn balls or pumpkin pie. But honestly, why choose? Make them all and bask in the sweet treats of the fall season!

This is a great fool-proof snack that everyone will enjoy. If you’re looking for something tasty that your family isn’t too picky about, rice krispie treats are the perfect snack. Not only are they great to make in large quantities and then divvy up into smaller plastic baggies but they are easy to sneak healthy ingredients into them.

You can also add other fruits or nuts to change up the flavor if you’d like. Just take it as a base recipe and get creative! These rice krispie treats will always come out delicious no matter what ingredients you have on hand. Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie treats are what you need this Halloween!

This is a great recipe to teach kids about combining ingredients or using secondary ingredients for more flavor. You’ll have it memorized after the first time you make them!

These fun rice krispy treats are frosted and filled with cookies and cream! A really fun recipe to serve on Halloween!

  • 6 Cups Rice Krispie Cereal (half box) 5 tbs Butter
  • 14 oz Marshmallows
  • 8-10 Oreos, finely chopped
  • 1 jar store bought vanilla buttercream
  • 1/4 cup black candy melts
  • 1/4 cup orange candy melts
  • Paramount crystals, coconut oil or vegetable oil

  1. In a large microwave safe bowl melt marshmallows and butter for 90 seconds.
  2. Go around the bowl with a rubber spatula making sure the marshmallows aren’t sticking to the bowl.
  3. Add half of crispy cereal and half of the crushed Oreos. Mix well. Add the remaining cereal and Oreos.
  4. Line the dish with parchment paper (for easy removal when cutting)
  5. Spray with non stick spray
  6. Add all of the rice cereal mix to the pan and mash down with a metal or plastic spatula (you can also just press it but this makes it even).
  7. Allow to set 10-15 min before icing.
  8. Add 1 tbsp of paramount crystals or coconut oil and heat the candy melts in 30 second increments until melted.
  9. Add chocolate to piping bags (or ziplock bags) and cut a small zip in the end. Spread buttercream all over the top of the rice Krispy treats.
  10. In an alternating pattern do a horizontal stripe of the orange and black chocolate. Run a skewer down and then back up to create the design on top.
  11. Allow to set for 60-90 mins or until the chocolate is set.
  12. Lift up the parchment paper. Slice treats until even sections and serve.
