The Best Cookie Monster Cupcakes

These Cookie Monster cupcakes are super cute and fun to make with kids! Great for Sesame Street themed birthday parties!

What are cookie monster cupcakes?

These cupcakes are bright blue and decorated with googly eyes, a big smile, and of course—cookie crumbs! To make them, you’ll need some basic ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, eggs, milk, and cocoa powder.

You’ll also need food coloring or gel to achieve the signature Cookie Monster blue color. After you’ve made the cupcakes, it’s time to decorate them! Start by adding two round eyes and a big smile with a fun chocolate chip cookie to make it seem like cookie monster is eating a cookie whole.

Then sprinkle cookie crumbs all over the cupcake for added texture—the more crumbs, the better! Once your decorations are complete, enjoy your Cookie Monster cupcakes! They’re sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

What are some other fun Cookie Monster Treats that can be made?

You can make a fun and easy Cookie Monster milkshake by mixing up some vanilla ice cream with your favorite cookie, adding a few drops of blue food coloring to get the right color. Top it off with whipped cream and cookie crumbs for that extra deliciousness!

Cookie monster cookies are also great treat ideas. Try this Cookie Monster Bark for a fun treat!

Are these cupcakes fun to make with kids?

Yes! Cookie Monster cupcakes are a great activity to do with kids. Let them help mix the batter, choose the cookie crumbs and candy eyes for decorating, and even pick out their favorite kind of cookie to use as the ‘Cookie Monster snack’. Kids will have so much fun making these cupcakes, they won’t even realize they’re learning a bit of baking in the process!

Can these cupcakes be frozen?

These adorable Cookie Monster cupcakes feature a gorgeous blue frosting, candy eyes and a cookie!

Ingredients

  • Blue Frosting
  • Prebaked Cupcakes
  • Large Candy eyeballs
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies

Instructions

    Instructions for 1M tip

    1. Fit the 1M tip in a piping bag.
    2. Add about 2 large spoon fulls of blue frosting.
    3. Press the frosting down inside the bag and twist off the top so it doesn't flow out.
    4. Hold the piping bag straight up and down (at a 90 degree angle)
    5. Pipe a star in the center of the cupcake and without releasing pressure make a circle, going around 3-4 times until reaching your desired height.
    6. Release pressure and then pull the piping bag off to the side.
    7. If putting these cupcakes in boxes make sure not to make them too tall or it wont close.
    8. Add two large candy eyes and half a chocolate chip cookie.

    Instructions for tip 16

    1. Fit a piping bag first with a coupler and then add a Wilton tip 16.
    2. Add in about 2 spoonfuls of frosting (half the bag) and twist off the top.
    3. Hold the bag at a 90 degree angle-do not try to pipe this with the bag tilted.
    4. You will be piping stars all over the top of the cupcake.
    5. For the BEST result follow this pattern:
    6. Squeeze -stop squeezing-release
    7. This will allow you to prevent a "tail" of icing on your cupcakes.
    8. Small, quick, squeezes of frosting will create small stars on the surface of the cupcake.
    9. Keep them close together, filling in any gaps, this will mimic fur.
    10. Add two large candy eyes and half a chocolate chip cookie for the mouth.

    Instructions for tip 233

    1. Fit a piping bag with a coupler and tip 233
    2. The top of this tip has tiny holes which will mimic "grass"
    3. Before piping on the cupcake, pipe on a paper towel or piece of parchment.
    4. Option 1: Apply quick spurts of pressure to create small patches of "grass" or in this case "fur"
    5. Option 2: Apply quick spurt of pressure and pull up as you release pressure for longer fur.
    6. Option 3: Squeeze in a continous pattern all over to create "messy fur"
    7. Once you have picked your desired look, apply that method to the top of the cupcakes.
    8. Option 1 or 2 will actually look the best, but option 3 usually is the fastest.
    9. Add two large candy eyes and half a chocolate chip cookie for the mouth.

    Notes

If working with kids, using the tip 1M or tip 16 is going to be easiest for little hands. If working with older kids/tweens or teens, then the grass tip work.

The grass tip is my preference for Sesame Characters as it most closely resembles "fur" but the tip 16 is a close second.
