Air Fryer Teriyaki Beef Skewers
Air Fryer Teriyaki Beef Skewers – Sweet, Savory, and Weeknight Friendly
There’s something about food on a stick that just makes dinner more fun, and these teriyaki beef skewers bring all the flavor without all the fuss. Juicy, marinated steak, tender veggies, and that sticky-sweet teriyaki glaze come together in under 20 minutes—perfect for when you need a meal that feels special but fits into a busy weeknight.

Ingredients and Why They Work So Perfectly

Skirt Steak Marinated in Teriyaki – The star of the show. Skirt steak soaks up that teriyaki flavor beautifully, staying juicy and tender when cooked quickly.
Bell Peppers – Sweet, colorful, and perfect for adding crunch and freshness to balance the richness of the beef.
White Onion – Adds a subtle sharpness that mellows into sweetness as it cooks, layering flavor between the bites of steak.
Marinade Remnants – Brushing this over the skewers before cooking intensifies that teriyaki goodness.
Skewer Sticks – Because everything tastes better when it’s bite-sized and easy to grab.
Green Onions – Bright, fresh, and the perfect little pop of color for your final plate.
Sesame Seeds – Nutty and toasty, they add just the right amount of texture and make the dish look restaurant-ready.

How to Make Teriyaki Beef Skewers
Cut your onion and bell peppers into 1-inch pieces, then cut the skirt steak into 1-inch chunks. Trim your skewers to fit inside your air fryer basket—this keeps them from awkwardly sticking out while cooking. Start assembling each skewer with a slice of pepper, a slice of onion, and a piece of steak, repeating until the skewer is full but with a little room at each end for easy handling.
Arrange the skewers in the air fryer basket, drizzle or brush with the leftover marinade, and cook at 400°F for about 10 minutes (12 if you like your steak well done). Remove the skewers, let them rest for a couple minutes, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

When I first made these, it was one of those chaotic weeknights where everyone had something going on—homework, sports, phone calls, you name it. I threw the skewers together thinking they’d just be a “quick dinner,” but my family acted like I’d pulled off some gourmet magic trick. My husband immediately claimed the “extra” skewers, and my kids were eating straight off the sticks like it was a summer barbecue. It’s become one of those go-to meals that feels like a treat but takes less time than ordering takeout.
FAQs for the Best Teriyaki Beef Skewers
Absolutely—just grill them over medium-high heat for about 2-3 minutes per side.
Yes! Chicken thighs work especially well with teriyaki marinade.
If you’re grilling, yes—soak them in water for 20-30 minutes. In the air fryer, it’s not necessary since the cook time is so short.
Fun Places to Serve Teriyaki Beef Skewers
Perfect for busy weeknights when you still want something flavorful. Great for game day spreads where people can grab and go. They’re also amazing at backyard gatherings or potlucks—just bring a platter and watch them disappear.

A lot of teriyaki skewers are all meat or all veggies, but mine keep that perfect meat-to-veggie balance so every bite is interesting. I also make sure the marinade gets brushed on right before cooking for that sticky, caramelized finish. And by using the air fryer, you get those crispy, charred edges without having to fire up the grill—making this a year-round favorite.

- Marinade remnants
- Skewer sticks
- Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish.
Instructions
- Cut the onion and peppers into 1” pieces.
- Cut the steak into 1” pieces.
- Cut the skewers to fit your air fryer basket. I measure the most narrow part of my basket and cut them to that size.
- Begin assembling the skewers by starting with a pepper slice, an onion slice, and a piece of steak, and then repeat until the skewer is full. Leave some room on each end of the skewers to allow for picking it up.
- Place skewers into the air fryer basket. Fill the basket with as many skewers as you can.
- Drizzle or brush the skewers with the remaining marinade.
- Cook the skewers at 400°f for 10 minutes, and 12 minutes for well done.
- Remove skewers and let rest.
- Garnish skewers with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve with steamed rice or lettuce leaves for wraps.
Notes
Any color bell pepper will do but red, yellow, or orange are sweeter than green and therefore complement teriyaki better.
