I’m Now A Mother Of A Four Year Old

by Nellie

Believe it or not, I am the mother of a 4 year old.

When did this happen?

All of a sudden I am wrapped up in pre-k lotteries and a growing boy with more opinions than I can count.

For his birthday we usually go all out and have a huge family gathering with clowns and balloons and the whole nine. This year we did something a little bit subdued since we just had my huge party at my house just a few weeks ago. I think I am still all partied out ๐Ÿ™‚

So in the spirit of minimalism, we decided to have a small party at the daycare with a cake, party bags and smiles ย for all.

He loved it! He was SUPER excited and happy! So were his friends. I was really worried that he would notice that it wasn’t a grand celebration but he ย enjoyed this just as much, if not more. He celebrated with his friends that he sees everyday and he got CAKE! What could really be better for a four year old??

Happy 4th Birthday Baby.

Do you guys go all out for every birthday for your child? Is it a huge celebration? Or do you celebrate quietly?

Happy Birthday to you little guy! He is gorgeous! They do grow up so fast. I’ve found, after having 8 birthday parties between my two kids more if you count the school celebrations, they don’t care about the size of the party, they just want to have cake and presents. lol. (My oldest is just 6, so it might change as the get older).

BTW, you look fabulous!

Thanks Lisa ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m trying with better effort to get in front of the camera more (regardless of how much hubby rolls his eyes at me when I ask him to take a pic ๐Ÿ™‚

The party looked fabulous! Cake, favors, and friends is all they need. Happy Birthday to the little man. He looked happy in his Mommy’s arms to me! I’m loving all the photos. We’ve had small scale parties for my God daughter interspersed with a large one every couple of years and she seems to be fine with it. She’s nine though.

Yeah that seems like the consensus, not every single party has to be huge, but there has to be cake involved somehow ๐Ÿ™‚

Mom to a three-year-old here, but I think we will not celebrate four quietly. This summer my youngest will be one and my oldest will be four. I’m thinking party central.

Man! I wish I had summer babies, I am ALWAYS looking for a reason to barbeque! ha ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, so that cake look suuuuper good! I’m salivating and now…I want cake! Not good Nelle…NOT. GOOD! Happy belated birthday to him! I only do big parties every other year. We had an art inspired party for Kayden last year. This year is Kami’s year and she will probably have a party outside at home since she is a summer baby. I’m debating on a watermelon theme or a “You are my sunshine” theme.

I remember Kayden’s party, that was the one that you did all that cool stuff from Pinterest right? I want a summer baby JUST for the sake of having an outdoor party lol

Happy Birthday to your little man! This year we are taking out my daughter for her 5th birthday! I am all partied out and to tell you the truth she is more excited to go out with her cousins and do something then having a party!!! I think they really don’t care!

Thanks! There are only so many parties we can have in a small amount of time, and what most people don’t realized is the WORK involved!

Aww! Happy birthday man! I love the goodie cups. Very cute! Looks like a good time. You must win him some DijiPicZ stickers to go with his bday theme.

Yes mam! I totally entered! I hope I win! He would love that, especially now that he knows how to read and spell his name.

What a cutie! I seriously want the goodie bag. ๐Ÿ™‚

We’ve done both for the kids. If it was a time where money was an issue we’d give the choice of big party or big present.

Thats a good idea too, I think I might implement that as he gets older–right now he has not idea what a “big gift” is! (and let’s keep it that way! ha)

What a fun birthday – he looked so incredibly happy and that’s all that matters, right? That cake looked delish too. I’m all about the subdued bdays. Already thinking ahead to Nia’s 3rd this August . . .

You got time! Subdued birthdays are really not that bad at all. A lot less work.

Awww, heโ€™s so adorable! I love to throw big parties for my littles, but theyโ€™re definitely going to have to be kept to the โ€œbigโ€ birthdays. This year weโ€™ll be having a small party with family and a couple friends, and sending cupcakes in to pre-k when T turns four. I think thatโ€™s really the perfect solution for kids this age. Happy birthday to your little boy!

Thanks! Sending cupcakes to preschool makes total sense. I’m thinking maybe when he turns 5 we will go back to ‘big’ parties ๐Ÿ™‚

He is so handsome. Belated birthday to him. Every year we say we aren’t going to go all out and then we go all out! I seriously think we will go big for the baby’s 3rd and then everyone will lay low for a few years. The cost has become astronomical.

He is adorable! Happy birthday to your baby! I think with kids they don’t notice until they are older and trying to compete with their friends. When they are young cake, candy and friends is truly all they care about ๐Ÿ™‚

The cake looks amazing and so do you!

Happy 4th birthday to your little man. I love your pics with your boys, so sweet. I went all outfor my son’s 1st birthday, I was all worn out and decided that I won’t be doing that anymore, it’s just too much stress. I am all small, intimate fun now. I might even do joint parties, my kids bdays are only 3 weeks apart

Nellie March 16, 2013 - 4:08 pm

Thank you! It is just SO much stress!! it drives me crazy–especially since I am the only one planning it! Joint parties are a good idea really–my boys are 3 months apart, you can definitely pull that off!
