Happy Friday y’all!
No one is happier to see Friday than your girl. It has been one long, hard, stressful week. Remember that time my mom left the country during Easter break and I could barely get myself together? Yeah. So THAT happened again, (who does this lady think she is gallivanting all over the world in her retirement?! :)) and it wasn’t as expensive this time because I was dropping both kids off at one place, but it was crazy stressful all the same.
Getting up extra early to get out the house 30 minutes earlier at 6:40AM then getting to work late–then leaving extra early to pick them up from the daycare. Because my husband works longer days than me it is all on my shoulders to pick them up, make dinner and try to keep my sanity through it all. It was just non stop gogogo wakeup–>travel to daycare–>travel to work–>travel to daycare from work–>pick up kids–>travel home–>make dinner for me–>make dinner for kids. Mama is tired.
I am not built for this life!
I am so thankful to have a job that no only respects what I do, but is extremely understanding when it comes to family/life issues. It also works to my benefit that when I come in late or leave early the burden of work is only on me. I have no back up so I am wholly responsible for all that I do.
Half Marathon Training Update
So with all of that going on, I am happy to say that I was able to workout 3 times this week (with my long run planned for tomorrow).
Last weekend I ran my longest run ever, I JUST LOVE saying that every week! I went out to Summer Streets solo this time and ran from my gym downtown brooklyn all the way to midtown NYC, I covered a total of 8.62miles. I was originally scheduled for 8 miles solid but I totally missed my exit on the bridge and ended up in a place I didn’t recognize! Thank goodness I realized quickly before I ended up in Queens! ha!
The overall run was awesome. Its really cool running with so many people at the same time. My legs literally felt like they were going to fall off in that last .62 but I was so happy to finish. I was extremely happy with my time — when the Nike lady (I call her Sara) said that I was averaging 11:30 ish every mile I hardly believed her. One mile–sure, but 8?! I was stunned considering I average 12-13 per mile on a good day! I’ll take it! Especially because going up that hill of the Brooklyn Bridge slowed me down considerably. (I was totally ready to turn around at that point!!) I was also able to shave 10 minutes off my 10k personal PR! cray!
The rest of my runs for the week were okay. Tuesday was a slow and steady 4 miles, and the same for Thursday (a full minute per mile slower). I really think it was because I knew I only had about 30 minutes to get myself out of the house once I got back, it was like I was preoccupied with the day ahead and I was really unable to concentrate on my training. I only cross trained once this week with a VERY intense spin class from a substitute teacher that my body was NOT ready for!
I didn’t realize that planning all of these out of town trips before the end of the year would affect my race schedule!! I am so disappointed that I am only running 3 races this fall!! I want to run them ALL lol! 3 months into serious running and I want to run ALL the races! It’s even more difficult because of my Sunday Church volunteering schedule. (WHY ARE ALL THE GOOD RACES ON SUNDAYS?!) I am trying to see if I can do at least one more this season–it will most likely be towards the end of the season (READ: COLD) so I will wait until I know for sure that I won’t be a punk when it comes to running outside in the winter! I have my eye on the 5M Turkey Trot though!! Everyone says it sells out fast but I don’t even know when–or where–it goes on sale. It’s like a weird secret race that happens in Brooklyn. Challenge Accepted.
This weekend I have 9 miles on deck, followed by a caribbean dance class, followed by a event. Whew. Don’t call me at 8pm on Saturday night. I will likely be sleeping or really grumpy! Did I mention I have a 6 day vacation to pack the entire family for? oy vey!
