I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend! I am very happy to say that I have been doing absolutely nothing all weekend (with the very welcome exception of teaching my weekly Zumba class on Saturday). I even took a NAP. WHAT?! YES! My husband was extremely wonderful this weekend as he took care of the kids as I recharged my batteries from the out of the ordinary insane week I had.
So yesterday, the weather was fantastic and I was able to go outside and shoot a few videos. One of the key messages that I learned from The SITS girls when I went to the mini bloggy bootcamp in Manhattan, and when I went to bloggy bootcamp in Charlotte–EPIC recap forthcoming–is that its a great idea to have a video introducing yourself to your readers either on your homepage or your about me page.
So I spent 10 minutes shooting the video and another hour editing with Windows Movie Maker (I’m getting better!) and the final result was really like a commercial for my blog! I thought it was a really cool addition and a piece of media that can live infinitely on the blog or you can switch it up every once in a while like I plan to!
How to Make a Blog Commercial
1) Shoot The Video
Make a few notes about what you want to talk about, what are the top three things (or less) that your blog is about? If you had 30 seconds to “pitch” someone about your blog, what would you say? try to keep it under 2 minutes!
2) Find the instrumental version of a favorite songs
You choose what kind of tempo you want. I chose a upbeat hiphop/dancehall song, you can choose something that reflects your personality and your voice. (Disclaimer: YouTube gets so weird about songs and stuff, so I would read up on that before choosing)
3) Get a Good Video Editor
I use the very free and basic Windows Movie Maker so splitting and editing the video down under 2 minutes was relatively easy. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t multitasking it would have been done in less than 30 minutes.
Upload the video to YouTube, or any other video hosting place, embed in your sidebar or on your about me page and you are done!
I am not a Vloggin Expert by any means but I think a blog commercial is a fun way to introduce yourself to new readers!
