I Took My First Barre Class and I am Smitten.

I’ve always wanted to take a barre class. There was something about the class that has always attracted me. My friends ALL take barre regularly and somehow someway I’ve never found myself in class.

Until yesterday.

Momtrends and Boudreaux Butt Paste invited us bloggers to come and take a booty burn class at Exhale Spa in the meatpacking district located in the Gansevoort Hotel. I was a bit nervous but happy nervous because I knew I was about to finally take a class I’ve admired from afar for so long.

We put our grippy socks on and went to work immediately. I looked down and saw a green stretchy thing, pretty much not knowing that green thing would turn out to be pure evil. But I’ll get to that.

Getting on the bar(re)

After some plank exercises and toning moves I was already pouring sweat which was a bit jarring because I wasn’t running or jumping. The instructor guided us to the bars along the edges of the room. We did all kinds of insane moves on the bar including lunges, squats and one legged moves that actually made me feel as if a fire had been lit in both legs. It was insanity but good insanity. I especially loved when we had to go on our toes, touch our heels together and squat. I didn’t really think I could do it, but I did–Through the inferno.

The green band of evil

Next we were asked to put a green resistance band with not much give around our legs above our knees. We did a long series of moves including leg opens, toe taps, clams and so much more. My hips were screaming obscenities at me so I knew I was doing something right.

Afterwards we did some ab work that was a bit tough for me but I think with practice I can only get better.

At the very end we were treated to 5 minute massages and it was so good. It was the perfect way to self care after such a tough class. My body was happy.

Overall thoughts on Barre

I’ll be honest, if I knew barre was like this I never would have waited so long to try it! I don’t know what it is that I loved so much. Maybe it was the incredible burn, or the fact that such a low impact workout can be so effective. I’m pretty sure they created an addict.

I have heard that they are fun but I recently joined a group that focuses on drinking more water. Not a class but they pump you up to eat healthier one step at a time.

I would love to take a barre class. I’ve heard about how great they are, esepecially for runners. I just wish they were a little more affordable!

Oh yes – my body screams at me when I’m doing it and they say that means it’s working!
It can be pricey but I do photoshoots for one of the local barre businesses so I do trades!
Also, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste is the ONLY thing that worked for both kids.

We were turned onto Boudreaux by my cousin’s wife when we had our first, and never looked back. It’s so much better than the traditional choices for diaper ointment!

I still haven’t tried barre classes, either. Though that’s more because I already pay for a gym membership, and budget just doesn’t allow for both boutique and general gym memberships. (The gym also wins out because of childcare!) Someday I hope to try a class though!

Barre classes are such incredible workouts! So glad you enjoyed yours. And to find a cream that’s gentle, but fast action…You can’t beat that!
