How To Achieve A Healthy Mindset Today
When it comes to a healthy mindset, We are can often be consumed by an obsession of running an extra mile, following an extreme diet to drop down a few pounds on the scale. Although it’s important to prioritize physical fitness, one can’t undermine the importance of a healthy mind.
A healthy mind is not only your shield to toxic thoughts and culture but a key to living a happy and positive life.
But what does it take to have a healthy mindset?
Let’s chat about the five key elements of a healthy mindset.
1. Calmness
You have to accept that life won’t be easy. Life will throw out challenges at you. (Hello? Pandemic?!) What you don’t have to do is, give up and run away from them. Instead, you have to face them while being as calm as possible.
Having a calm and composed mind is vital as it provides your mind with clarity. If you are stressed, you would not be able to be insightful and would have a hard time looking for an appropriate solution. We are all under a lot of pressure, but if you are anything like me you can get a LOT of things done when you are 100% calm.
Here are some exercises that can help you stay calm.
- Take deep breaths
- Sit still or lie down
- Try to think through tasks
2. Cordiality
You cannot always be right. You will make mistakes. There would be moments when people would correct you, comment on you or your work. (Especially when you share your work on the Internet!) Instead of always considering it as hate or negativity, possibly consider their remarks as feedback.
Consequently, remarks and feedback help you recognize your flaws. Reflect on their opinions, think through, and try to take it positively because their feedback can help you become a better person or creative.
3. Gratitude
It’s dismaying to realize the roots of our unhappiness often lie in things we do not possess. Practicing gratitude is the shortcut to developing a healthy mindset.
Here’s how you can practice gratitude.
- Have a look at things around you and try to be mindful of them.
- Thank your loved ones for their efforts and care from time to time.
- Surround yourself with reminders that help you to focus on things that you possess and not on the ones that are currently out of your reach.
Practicing gratitude comes with two significant advantages. Firstly, it helps you appreciate the things you have in life.
Secondly, it helps put an end to your never-ending desires and cravings for newer, better, and bigger things.

4. Courage
We all have an idea about the kind of life we want. However, only a few of us manage to turn their ideas into reality.
How do they do it? Are they blessed with a special gift? No, they’re humans just like us. But unlike us, they do not let their fears stop them.
Having fears is completely natural. You can be afraid of multiple things like facing the wild world out there, the struggles of daily life, failures, etc. However, you don’t need to perceive them as full stops but mere challenges and barriers you need to dodge in order to achieve the kind of life you want.
As the saying goes, “Everything you wanted is on the other side of the fear.” So, get after it!
5. Focus
It’s crucial to maintain your focus if you want to achieve your goals and ambitions. But with so many distractions at hand, we tend to lose our focus and slip away. Admittedly, you cannot learn to stay focussed in a day. It takes time. I too am a victim of shiny things syndrome.
Here are some things that can help you improve concentration:
- Stay away from gadgets while you work.
- Indulge yourself in brain exercises like puzzles and word games.
- Do not keep looking at the clock while you work.
Just as you nourish your body with wholesome foods, nourish your mind with positive thoughts. Be optimistic and practice the key elements vital for a healthy mind.
