Easter Crack Recipe: Easy Easter Treats For Kids
This super fun Easter Crack recipe is a delicious snack that is made with saltine crackers, dark chocolate and candy m&m’s.

Easter Crack is the one thing I make every single year that disappears before I’ve even had a chance to take a photo of it. My kids call it “the toffee thing” and start asking about it the week before Easter like clockwork.
It’s butter and brown sugar cooked into a toffee, poured over saltine crackers, baked until bubbling, then topped with melted dark chocolate, spring M&Ms, and Easter sprinkles. The whole thing takes about 20 minutes of active work — the rest is just waiting for it to set in the refrigerator. Make it the night before and you’ll have the easiest Easter dessert on the table.
The name comes from the sound it makes when you break it apart — that satisfying crack of the toffee and chocolate bark. Once you hear it you understand why it’s impossible to stop eating.

FAQs
Easter crack is made from saltine crackers topped with a homemade butter and brown sugar toffee, baked until bubbling, then finished with melted dark chocolate, spring M&Ms, and Easter sprinkles. It’s a riff on the classic “Christmas crack” bark but decorated for Easter.
The name comes from the sound it makes when you break the bark apart into pieces — the toffee and chocolate set into a firm brittle that cracks satisfyingly when broken. It’s a seasonal version of “Christmas crack,” the classic saltine toffee bark that goes by the same name during the holidays.
Yes — white chocolate works beautifully and gives the finished crack a more pastel, spring-appropriate look that shows off the Easter M&Ms and sprinkles even better. Milk chocolate is also a good option if dark chocolate is too bitter for younger kids.
Yes. Graham crackers give you a slightly sweeter, less salty base. The recipe works the same way — just line the pan the same as you would with saltines. The classic version uses saltines because the salt balances the sweetness of the toffee and chocolate, but graham crackers are a great kid-friendly swap.
If the residual heat from the toffee isn’t enough to melt the chocolate, slide the whole pan back into the warm (but turned off) oven for 60–90 seconds. That’s usually enough to soften it. Don’t put it back in a hot oven — you just need gentle warmth.
Store finished pieces in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The chocolate and toffee hold their texture best when kept cold. Remove about 15–20 minutes before serving. For longer storage, freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag — it keeps well for up to a month.
It depends on how you cut it. Cut into 16 larger pieces for a more generous serving, or 36 smaller pieces if you’re serving a crowd or want bite-size portions. The recipe is very sweet so smaller pieces are plenty satisfying.

The Toffee — What’s Actually Happening in the Pan
The butter and brown sugar step is the most important part of this recipe and the one most people rush. You’re making a quick toffee — the butter and sugar need to fully combine and simmer together for the full 5 minutes so the mixture can reach the right temperature to harden properly once it cools.
If you pull it off too early, the toffee layer will be soft and sticky instead of crisp. If you let it go too long without stirring, it’ll burn on the bottom. Keep the heat on low and stir constantly — it should be a deep amber color and smell like caramel when it’s ready.
Pour it immediately over the crackers while it’s still liquid. It spreads easily when hot and starts setting fast, so work quickly and use the back of a spoon or an offset spatula to get it to the edges.
Why is it called Easter crack?
Easter Crack gets its name from the satisfying crack sound the bark makes when you break it apart into pieces. The toffee and chocolate set into a firm brittle in the refrigerator, and when you snap it — that’s the sound that gave this whole category of candy its name.
It’s actually a seasonal spin on the classic “Christmas Crack,” the saltine toffee bark that shows up on holiday dessert tables every December. Same method, same addictive quality — just swapped out for spring colors with Easter M&Ms and festive sprinkles instead of red and green. Once you know the Christmas Crack connection you’ll start seeing variations of this recipe for every holiday, because the base is that good and the decorating options are endless.

We hope you enjoy this Easter Crack recipe and make it for your next gathering.
