Disney Social Media Moms On The Road Celebration Recap
If you are a blogger in the parenting space (and likely even if you are not) you have likely heard of Disney Social Media Moms. Maria Bailey and her team from MomSelect invites an exclusive amount of parenting bloggers to either Disney world or Disneyland for a magical conference at an extremely discounted rate. I didn’t know about this until one day when I saw my twitter feed blow up with tweets about #disneySMMC and chatter that the invitations were going out.
These invitations are treated in the same regard Cinderella and her sisters treated their own invitation to the ball. With sheer glee and excitement. I was not on that list but never fear, there is a mini half day conference that travels! This year the Disney Social Media Moms On The Road Celebration would be held in NYC, Portland and Austin. Yours truly got an invitation to the fun, yes there were audible squeals of glee and excitement. Finally I got to see what all the hype was about and I truly wasn’t disappointed.
The Disney Social Media Moms On The Road Conference would be taking place in the beautiful New Amsterdam Theatre in the middle of Times Square. Have you ever attended a conference in a Broadway theater? Yeah, me either. We all treated to Breakfast and mingled and of course took pictures with Disney props.
Logically we thought we would be sitting in the audience while we received great information from the presenters, right? That theory was flipped right on it’s head and WE were the onstage talent making our Broadway debut!
Our first presenter was Jenn Fickley-Baker, Social Media manager for Disney Blogs. She shared with us all of the fun things that they do and how they curate content for the very popular website. I recommend if you are going to Disney anytime soon, check out the DisneyBlog. They have so many fun things including meetups and super touching stories from guests. They also have the inside on all the new park rides, restaurants and attractions—and trust me there are a lot of them! I’ve been going to DisneyWorld for the past 10 years and I didn’t even know this existed!!

Victoria Lim was next and she was my favorite because she was a gadget queen aka a woman after my own heart. I hung on to her every word because she knew what she was talking about! She gave some great advice on which mics to buy for video, the importance of video content, and how to make it all work for you. She also had the best personality—ever.

She shared a code with us that allows you to have a free year of Magisto (my FAVORITE video editing app) It takes all of the guesswork out of creating a fantastic video montage. No editing experience required. Check it out! The code is “magistotrial12” You’re Welcome.
Finally one of my favorite segments was a segment presented by Ivanka Trump’s Social Media manager Marissa Kraxberger. She gave us a lot of before and afters as she explained to us how she and her team revamp Ivanka’s image into what it is today. Prior to getting a social media team and rebranding her Instagram feed lacked focus, and all anyone knew of HER was her family name.
Now Ivanka has a beautiful clothing and accessories line for #WomenWhoWork (Side note: I actually have a lot of her pieces in my wardrobe for my day job! Beautiful collection, but that deserves a separate post) and a social media plan that has produced almost double the followers and engagement than before she rebranded. I am a big Ivanka fan (she is one of my Besties In My Head) so this segment was particularly awesome.
Content – tell real stories – some content is wonderful simply because it is true #DisneySMMC

There were lots of giveaways during the day and guess who won the last one?! Yours truly!! It is a beautiful (and I mean GORGEOUS) American Tourister piece of luggage with all kinds of goodies including a Tablet holder (just in time to use with my new Samsung tablet), a charging device, and absolutely stunning light pink crocodile textured laptop holder that I will totally use on a daily basis, a ombre scarf, and tons more Disney fun. I literally hit the jackpot!
Finally it was time for the New Amsterdam Theatre Tour. I was super geeked for this because I was raised going to Broadway shows but had never ever been behind the scenes of an actual tour. The New Amsterdam Theatre is actually where I saw the Lion King in 1998 in my junior year of high school with my class. The Lion King is no longer there but now the ever popular Aladdin sells out every night.
In addition to the Lion King, the New Amsterdam Theatre has been home to power houses such as Beauty and The Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aida, Mary Poppins and more. The Theatre is breathtaking, and it is so cool to learn about the history and man that theatre has been through some changes!
One of the coolest parts of the entire tour was the back room where we were allowed to try on head pieces and costumes from previous shows. I wanted to put them ALL on but we only had a limited amount of time. Definitely one of the biggest highlights of the day!
The Disney Social Media Moms On The Road Celebration NYC was a fantastic time all around. There was a lot of great info, lots of surprises and the New Amsterdam Theatre tour was the icing on the cake.
