Holiday Eating Vs. Me!

I totally knew it was coming.

It’s kind of like that weather forecaster that knows an intense hurricane is coming and then somehow gets surprised when they get blown across town by the strong winds?? Yes. That is what these holiday parties are doing to me!

So Saturday was the baby’s birthday party, but I will save that story for later because that deserves 300 words all to its own. :)

However, there was junk food (and healthy food) but I ate a lot of the junk food :) there was pizza and cake and ice cream and really it was a miracle I stayed within my allotted calories — it really wasn’t a miracle at all.  I burned 606 calories teaching Zumba that morning. Call it a Zumba miracle.

Then Sunday comes and so does that crazy monthly aunt that makes me eat like a vacuum. I also had my church staff dinner which is located downtown at the Marriott. The food has never disappointed me and let me tell y’all it was so insanely good.

But before I get into that can I get two claps for this jacket that barely fit and didn’t close when I attended this event in May, but now fits and closes super comfortably?! (NSV!)

As a part if my strategy, I did manage to fill my plate up with salad which was actually pretty yummy! But there was also a small amount of rice, fingerling potatoes and short rib that was out of this world.

For dessert I had half a red velvet cupcake (I am a huge red velvet snob) and half of a brownie.

Whew! That is a lot of crazy eating for the weekend. But I am happy to say that exercise saved the day! I am so ready to get back to normal this week. (If normal includes the company holiday party! Oy vey.)

  2. I just know this time of the year is a losing battle and deal with it. But come January I always get serious and begin counting my calories better again and working out, too. Just can’t fight it though (at least that is me) and just deal for the holidays as best as I can. That said, you look great and seriously proud of you!! :)

  4. I maintain my one way of eating throughout the year so to avoid the difficulties of getting back on track. I approach food as being my medicine and I haven’t been sick since eating this way (plant based diet) and that is my motivation to eat healthy all year long. I wish you strength in getting back on the ball.

  6. I never gain weight during the holidays probably because I don’t eat holiday food like greens and stuff. I will be making my apple pie though that is the one thing that I must have and I eat the entire pie in about two days.

  8. You did good girl!! My monthly shark does it really bad to me, but I try my best to keep my head above the water. I miss my “formal” exercise, but I have a 12mo that is attached–like I can’t put him down for anything, attached. So I dance with him in my arms. The funny thing is, during the holidays, I’m the crazy person that tells people to “eat, eat!!” I make everyone’s favorite. Hahaha.

    • Thank you — Having a 12mo that is attached certainly does burn a ton of calories because that isn’t for an hour, its ALL the time! And remind me not to come to your house for the holidays LOL

  9. Going with the flow here! I crave things I never usually crave this time of year – peppermint mocha type stuff. Sugar cookies. Mmm…I do pretty well because we don’t have that much in the house but a good friend left a bag of sprinkled sugar cookies in my mailbox last night.

  14. My pregnancy has definitely thrown a wrench in my idea of healthy eating. It seems I come up with something I want to eat everyday. Sometimes it is a little bit healthy, but mostly, it is salty and not healthy. I haven’t really craved sweet, but that red velvet cake and brownie looks tasty right now! I also used to love love pork. Ribs, sausage, ham, pork loin, bacon, you name it. We cut down a lot on it though in recent years. With the pregnancy though, I’m looking at that rib and I can definitely buy some ribs and make some for dinner! Yum! LOL.

  19. Oh, I am so with you on all the holiday eating. It’s got to stop! Add PMS to that and it’s like one giant week-long caloriefest. I hate to admit it, but I’ll likely be looking like a lot of the January dieters next month. BUT…LOVE the fact that you burned 600 calories at Zumba. Great job!

I’m watching myself on the sweets, but the starches are what get me…especially during ‘that time of the month!’ I’m a savory food kind of girl!
