Mother’s Day is almost here! Have you gotten your gifts yet? I mention every year that my mom is the hardest person to shop for because she’s not into the usual things like perfumes, jewelry, makeup etc. I think found something this year that she will love but who knows–she is such a mystery!
Last week Wednesday I was invited to join the Pink Power Breakfast to join an intimate conversation surrounding women’s health and Breast Cancer. The breakfast was hosted by the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), who is responsible for raising over $550 million dollars for Breast Cancer Research to date.
The breakfast was held at one of NYC’s most popular chain of restaurants, Sarabeth’s. Which was line out the door busy on a Wednesday morning at 9:30am!
Over a very delicious breakfast we discussed some of the amazing things the BCRF is doing when it comes to Breast Cancer Awareness. Our speakers Maria Baum, CEO of Tracy Anderson Mind & Body shared her personal story of going through breast cancer despite her not having any history of it in her family. She captivated everyone at the table with her stories of trusting her gut and leaning on friends and family to get through such a hard time.
Dr. Elizabeth Comen, Medical Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Center explained a lot about the research and some of the vast improvements that are happening in the industry. She is a BCRF grantee and her main research focuses on the mechanisms by which breast cancer metastasizes and spreads to distant organs. One of the most significant things I heard her say was that women can’t bring breast cancer on themselves. After diagnosed, women often wonder if they brought it on themselves and the truth is…it just happens.
