Simple And Easy Ways to Beautify Your Home

by Nellie

Home Decor is not quite my strong suit.

I don’t have an “eye” for design, and quite honestly I only buy new things when I absolutely need it (read: the kids have written on, colored on, or simply broke it).

I was invited to a really fun Command/3M DIY Experience in lower manhattan last week. It was a couple days after a nor’easter dropped tons of ice instead of the 2 feet of snow that was predicted. I was happy to get our of the house because cabin fever was threatening to take me down.

After climbing multiple ice mountains, I finally arrived. The lovely hosts immediately took my coat and hung it on a hook on the wall. My coat is HEAVY. It goes all the way to my knees, it’s super puffy and it keeps me warm on the coldest of days. So naturally I did a double take when my coat hung effortlessly on the Large 3M™ Command™ Damage-Free Hook. I think I might need a bunch of these for my foyer since my coat rack always looks like it’s about to collapse any minute.

Wall Repair Kit

When I got inside there was a whole section dedicated to repairing large holes in the wall. I have quite a few holes in my house–some inherited and some from the kids. I have been dragging my feet to get a contractor in here, but guess what I can now fix it myself!

For more information on this easy to use kit, check out 3M.com.

Damage Free Hanging

When I first moved into my house it was like a really bad home improvement episode on HGTV…I had all of these big dreams of hanging all the things, meanwhile I had not clue what beams were or hollow walls but I found out pretty quickly.

When I saw these gorgeous shelves that required no tools, I was instantly smitten. You mean to tell me that I don’t have to create YET another unused hole in the wall? Yes, Please.

Blue Painter’s Tape

I am way too much of a scaredy pants to paint my own house but the time is coming for a new paint job (hello, kids) and I need to see how I can do this on my own. I got a hands on tutorial on how to use the blue tape–and it’s super easy to rip and apply.

There was even a full tape ball hanging. I don’t know what it was about it but I was really fascinated with it!

Needless to say I was super inspired to hang things and maybe even paint things in my own home!

I am also terrible at this type of stuff, but my husband rocks at it. So, I am most certainly passing along some of this info to him, because he is looking to refresh our girls’ bedroom when we can now. Therefore, I am sure he can use some of your advice here. Thanks Nellie 🙂

When the hubs was alive we had plenty holes in the walls lol it was tough back in the day but these days there are no holes in the wall. I am not a decorator at all I actually hired a blog buddy to come and do it for me because I can’t!

I’m definitely here for home decor and a little DIY stuff. Along with some girlfriends, I’ve painted probably more than half of my house. Blue tape is a close friend! LOL Last project was the basement, which I turned into a home office after I left my last job. I love the Command line of hooks and other handy items. I’ve not fixed holes in the wall as yet. That’s a bit intimidating, but I can see how the products you showed can make it a lot simpler.

I love your events! It’s not my strongpoint, but I’m constantly looking for new ways to display photos, as you can imagine. Pretty awesome!
