FAQs

Q: Can I use any kind of champagne? A: Absolutely! While sweet champagne is recommended for a more intense champagne flavor, feel free to use your favorite kind, be it dry champagne or even sparkling wine.

Q: How can I make these cupcakes non-alcoholic? A: You can substitute the champagne with a non-alcoholic sparkling wine or even sparkling cider to keep the festive feel without the alcohol.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use a kitchen scale for precise measurements, especially for the dry ingredients like cake flour and powdered sugar.
  • For moist cupcakes, don’t overmix the batter. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • To intensify the champagne flavor, reduce the champagne in a small saucepan over medium-high heat before adding it to the frosting.

Variations

  • Strawberry Champagne Cupcakes: Add a small amount of strawberry puree to the cupcake batter and frosting for a fruity twist.
  • Mini Cupcakes: Perfect for parties, adjust the baking time accordingly.
  • Layer Cake: Double the recipe and bake in round pans to create a stunning champagne layer cake.

Where to Serve

These cupcakes are ideal for bridal showers, wedding showers, birthday parties, New Year’s Eve parties, or even a romantic Valentine’s Day treat. They’re also a great choice for any event where you want to add a touch of elegance.

Storage

Store the cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. The frosting should be kept in the fridge if made in advance.

Common Problems and How to Avoid Them

  • Frosting Too Runny: Ensure the butter is at room temperature, not melted. If the frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  • Cupcakes Too Dense: Avoid overmixing the batter and ensure your leavening agents in the cake mix are not expired.

Tips for Making This Recipe with Kids

  • Let kids help with measuring and pouring ingredients.
  • They’ll love adding the gold sprinkles on top.
  • Use this as an opportunity to teach them about careful measuring and following a recipe.

Topping Options

  • Gold Sprinkles: For a touch of luxury and celebration.
  • White Chocolate Shavings: Adds a sweet, creamy texture.
  • Lemon Zest: For a citrusy twist that complements the champagne flavor.

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Frosting Ingredients:
  • ⅓ cup champagne*
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 TBSP half n half**
  • Pinch of salt to taste
  • Additional Items:
  • Gold sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Add cupcake liners to cupcake pans and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, champagne, eggs and oil. Mix on medium speed until fully combined.
  3. Add 3 Tbsp of cake mixture to each liner.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Transfer to a cooling rack and allow to come to room temperature.

Notes

*If you want a stronger champagne flavor, omit the half n half and add additional champagne.
