Brownie mix is the base that gives these brownies that deep, classic chocolate flavor with zero extra fuss. Pumpkin puree keeps the texture soft and moist while adding a subtle, naturally sweet pumpkin taste that makes this recipe so perfect for fall. Semi-sweet chocolate chips bring extra richness and pockets of melty chocolate goodness in every bite.

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Brownies

Preheat your oven and line a square baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang so it’s easy to lift the brownies out later. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brownie mix with the pumpkin puree until the batter is thick and smooth. Fold in most of the chocolate chips, then spread the batter evenly in your prepared pan. Sprinkle the rest of the chocolate chips over the top. Bake until the edges are set but the center stays gooey and rich. Let the brownies cool slightly in the pan before lifting them out with the parchment and slicing them into squares.

One Saturday afternoon when the air was crisp and the house felt like it needed that warm, homey smell, I decided to whip these up. Within minutes, the scent of chocolate and pumpkin had my kids running inside from playing. My husband and I grabbed our mugs of hot chocolate, cut into the still-warm brownies, and sat around the table while everyone reached for seconds. It’s become one of those simple recipes we make over and over again, especially on fall weekends when we want something special without making a mess of the kitchen.

I love that this recipe feels both special and ridiculously easy. Using brownie mix means there’s no stressing over exact measurements, and the pumpkin gives you that seasonal twist without overpowering the chocolate. It’s the kind of dessert that looks like you put in way more effort than you actually did, and that’s always a win in my book.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) brownie mix
  • 15 ounce can pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or sugar-free chocolate chips, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving overhang over the sides to make it easier to lift the brownies out of the pan after baking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brownie mix and pumpkin puree. The batter will be thick. Fold in ¾ cup of the chocolate chips.
  3. Scoop the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish and spread out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of chocolate chips over top of the brownies.
  4. Bake at 350F for 22-25 minutes until they are setting up around the edges. A toothpick inserted into the center will still come out with brownie batter stuck to it because these brownies are very fudgy.
  5. Remove the brownies from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Lift the brownies out of the pan by holding the sides of the parchment paper. Cool on the counter for another 10-15 minutes.
  6. Use a sharp knife to cut the brownies into 9 squares. The brownies will be rich and gooey.
