Road To The NYC Marathon: Vacation Miles – Week 8 + 9 Recap

by Nellie

Happy Friday y’all!

In been a cool yet super busy couple of weeks around here. Last weekend I went to the Family Forward Conference held at the Universal Studios in Florida. I had a truly amazing time, even better than last year! I have a 3 or 4 part series coming up on the trip–I’m already budgeting it in for next year!

Through all of that I had to train for a little race called the TCS NYC Marathon. How’d it go? Glad you asked!

Week 8

Week 8 started off really well because I had an awesome time at the France 8k and I had one of the best long runs I’ve ever had–I knew I was doing well when I was approaching mile 12 and not even close to feeling like I wanted to die. THIS is improvement people!IMG_4763

Throughout the week I have still been getting up at 4:30am to get out of the house and run. Honestly my first mile is always the slowest because a) it’s pitch dark outside and although there are a good amount of people on the streets commuting to work etc. I still have all flags up b) It takes a ton of energy to really get my motor running and c) I don’t really feel “free” to run until I actually make it to the track which is exactly a mile from my house.IMG_4786

I was able to run AND cross train with Yoga and Strength Training for a total of 5 workout days. Felt good just to lift again. I already have decided to really jump back into Jamie Eason as soon as this marathon is over! I know I’m going to need a running break and I will use November & the beginning of December to really strength train exclusively until training begins for Disney Princess Weekend 2016. (I did mention that I registered for that…right? As if I could stay away after last year!)IMG_4935

I was so thankful that Week 8 was a “cutback week”! I was beginning to overload on the running. Plus it just happened to coincide with my vacation week! This is done to help prevent over training and somehow it helps to not continuously build on mileage. I actually did 12 miles on the treadmill–thanks to The Good Wife!

Week 8 total miles: 21

Week 9

This was a bit difficult to manage since I did my long run on Sunday and travelled all day on Monday. However, I was able to get in a (very pressured) 5 miles on Tuesday morning. I woke up late and now that the kids are back in school I have even less time to make these runs happen. Thank goodness for my amazing husband that does such a great job getting them ready while I’m out running. IMG_4811

My plan was to run Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (in Baltimore). Thursday it poured all day and it made me sleepy–since I didn’t have to get on a bus until 3pm–I totally took a nap. Look, when a nap presents itself you don’t deny. I don’t regret a minute of it!

Week 9 miles: 26

Since I will be in Baltimore for Blogalicious on Friday and Saturday I am very much looking forward to running some training miles on the waterfront. I will be back in the city Saturday evening so my long run is still to be determined somewhere in NYC. The plan calls for 16 miles! Terrifying but I think I can do it. I pray I can!

I am still fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House, I would appreciate anything you can give! Click here to go to my donation page!

I love it when cut back week coincides with vacation time! So happy to hear you are still getting it done and even (dare I say?) enjoying the longer runs!!! Love it.
Enjoy running in a different city, especially along the waterfront. And 16 miles ‘aint got nothin’ on YOU baby!! Go get it!

I loved seeing all your pics from the Universal trip and now cannot wait for your recap. By the way, I am already budgeting to do Disney again next year now, too 🙂

Wow! Blogalicious is next? If I could just be you for a month, I’d have so much fun! Although I’d have to start from way scratch for any marathon training.

Ack! You were in B’more and I missed seeing you? I hope you enjoyed the cooler temps while running this weekend. At least the worst of summer heat is behind you!
