Home Uncategorized Friday Fitness: Training Fail + The End of FITNESS Magazine?

Happy Friday!

How did all of you northeast make it through the snow? I am happy it wasn’t as bad as was expected and I am also happy that I got a day home. Even though I was working from home it was nice not having to get up at 5:10am, get two kids and myself ready and barely make a school bus arrival. Yes. It was awesome.

Run report

Holy smokes running long distances on a treadmill is hard work. I’ve only run over 7 miles once before and that was because I was in Orlando and it was 92 degrees with full humidity outside. Last week I thought I prepared but ended up a complete mess.

I decided that I would take my tablet, wifi connection and sheer determination to the gym to run 8 miles last Friday. I turned on my HULU to continue my binge watching of The Good Wife and began my run. About mile 4 I realized this was going to be way harder than I expected.

The reason why I started to “feel it” is because I truly didn’t treat it like a “long run”. Had it been normal temps outside I would have packed my flipbelt with gu, clif shots, and filled my water bottle with a nuun hydration tablet. I did none of the above.

So yes, I was running 8 miles with nothing but water to drink. This may work for some but for me? I needed something anythingto keep me going. The crazy part is that I have plenty of gu and nuun at home! Lesson learned. I will be fully prepared for today’s 9-10 miler!

Workout log

Monday: 4 mile run
Tuesday: rest day/snow day
Wednesday: 4 mile run + upper body
Thursday: hot yoga (I’m back baby! 3rd time this month!)
Friday: 9-10 mile run
Saturday: Teaching Zumba at the dojo

Upcoming races

So this Princess Half is starting to get really real, but also because this race officially starts my “race season” <--- it STILL feels completely weird to say that! I am tying up loose ends this week by getting tickets and booking dining reservations for after the half. We will be in Disney (CHILD FREE) for less than 48 hours (sound familiar? Yes I also did this last October! Don't judge!) so I want to maximize the time as much as possible! NYRR also added more races to their calendar so I could at least begin to sketch the framework of which 9 races I will be running this year. I am already registered for 3 so I need to schedule/register for 6 more to be guaranteed entry to the 2016 TCS NYC Marathon. I honestly don't even know if I am going to want to run it again next year after my inaugural year this year but something tells me--I will. πŸ™‚ It was announced on Wednesday that FITNESS magazine was sold and there would no longer be print versions of the popular health and wellness publication. I am SO sad this has happened! I have had a FITNESS subscription since college and it has always been one of my favorite magazines. Not to mention I've attended the amazing #FitBlogNYC (2013 & 2014) an event thrown by FITNESS magazine for bloggers. Although it will still be available digitally I am a physical book kind of girl and will miss the printed version dearly. Are you going to miss FITNESS magazine?Have you ever underprepared for a run? How was your fitness and eating week? What show would you watch if you had to do a long run on the treadmill?

I have had a few runs like that. I want invest in a flip belt and be a little more prepared. I use water for my treadmill runs but when I go outside I have nothing. I can remember two really long runs ( a 12 miler & 15 miler) where I completely crumbled. Don’t sweat it girl, you’ve got this! About magazines, I read Oxygen religiously! That is my favorite fitness magazine and it’s still in print form!

I know the snow could have been worse, but you know I am just not a fan, so of course I will still grumble a bit about it. Still glad though that we did get a bit of down time from it though and hoping the weekend lends us still a little bit more now πŸ˜‰

You are going to be amazing at the Princess Half–have a blast (I love love Disney). I’ve been half marathon training but haven’t been watching tv. I think I will try it! What other shows do you recommend? I’ve been listening to music or watching live concerts (read: BeyoncΓ© on repeat). These snow days have been crazy! My eating has been meh this week because being snowed in means I can get away from cooking comfort foods! I am so sad to hear about Fitness Magazine. Loved reading their mag and attending their amazing events!

I have SO done that before on the treadmill too! Luckily for me I always keep reserves in my gym bag so I was able to hop off, get it and hop back on!! Keep some back-ups in your bag πŸ™‚

Well, I can’t say a lot because I only drink water when running no matter how long. I know that your 9-10 mile run will be great!!!

They should give you a crown when you are done too. That would be awesome. Print magazines are going to be non existent soon. I still get some print but for the most part I read magazines on my tablet sad but true.

Your commitment is awesome! I have a horrible cold and am debating on doing my long run or not. I do think I need to to it on the treadmill because I don’t think going outside is a good option right now. I’ll read this post again for inspiration to keep going. πŸ™‚

I get Fitness magazine digitally but rarely read it because I prefer print. I might take a look at some of the issues since you like it so much.
