Fitbloggin 2013 – This Brooklyn Girl Loves Portland

fitbloggin recap 2013 portland

Let’s Start From The Beginning Shall We?

It all started at 11:50am. I had been fully over  packed for 2 days itching and so ready to visit the west coast for the first time and be overtaken by the magic of Fitbloggin.

So when we got the email that our flight had been delayed 2 hours my roomie Kim and I decided to grab some dinner and of course take advantage of wifi time to get some things done.

Except when we finally got on the plane a thunderstorm decided to appear, that was 7:30 pm. We were on a non moving plane for 3 hours. It was brutal! We finally left after 3 hours, 10pm our time–therefore we missed the entire first night but oh my goodness we were in Portland!!

The Real Fitbloggin Fun Begins

We got up early for breakfast and registration.  We got our amazing swag bag, and made it over to Reebok for our free pair of crossfit sneakers–thank you!!

Had some delish breakfast, and then it was time for me to Liveblog the Dealing With Injuries session.  I learned a lot from that session and I really thought I was dealing with something major in my knee, some of the people in the room have been through so much! They are extremely inspirational.

The big surprise

So remember when I told you guys that I had a big surprise at Fitbloggin?  Well, my friend Sue was gracious enough to allow me a spot to do my own song! I was scared, nervous, terrified, insanely happy and elated all at the same time.

My adrenaline was so high, but I knocked it out and after 30 seconds I felt like I was teaching my regular class. Everyone had such a good time, and I was literally on top of the world. There is nothing I love more than teaching Zumba and I was so happy to do what I love in front of my Fitbloggin family. I really came full circle from being completely inspired to teach by them, to sharing a stage. What an honor!!

I totally have it ALL on video, but it needs to be edited. You know I will be posting as soon as I edit! :)

Sessions

After a very fabulous lunch and fashion show, there were more great sessions like How to write the perfect pitch. Which was extremely useful because I didn’t even know where to start. The most important part of the session that I received was to be fearless, the worst thing you can get from a brand is a “no”. You won’t know until you try.

2013-06-283

We had a couple more sessions after that and then we headed out to the food trucks. I may have mentioned before that I was a little excited about this, and baby–I was not disappointed.

The food trucks are literally everywhere!  You can get anything from Korean bbq to Mexican within feet of each other. We ate good, then came back because Kim had to get ready for her Ignite presentation.

Keynote and Karaoke

The Ignite keynote presentation was awesome of course, 14 speakers got 5 minutes to talk on a subject of their choice. Some were funny, some were so real it sliced you to the core, some were informative and all of them were fantastic.  It was such a great keynote, and I am proud of every single person that hit that stage.

Confession: I have never done karaoke in public before. This is how comfortable I am at Fitbloggin! So of course I dragged Kim with me and we signed up for Single Ladies by my BFF in my head Beyonce and somehow ended up being the first ones to sing! Ohmahgosh! We sang it though, wrist flicking and background dancers were involved–it was pretty epic.

Check out the leopard pants though:

Voodoo Time

We got the genius idea to go to voodoo donuts after Karaoke.  Voodoo donuts is legendary in Portland so we figured we might as well do as the locals do and get some sweets! The line was long like we were going to the club! Can you believe there was even a bouncer?! What?!

2013-06-285

Was it worth it? Absolutely. The doughnut was like heaven. I am not sure if it was heavenly because it was midnight (3am east coast time) or if it genuinely tasted yummy. Either way I was a very happy camper. :)

Finally our crazy Fitbloggin Day 1 came to a close. Stay tuned for Part 2, which includes my first crossfit try, jumping on a trampoline, sponsors, new bonds and something very special that happened.

Have you ever been to Portland? Are you a Karaoke diva??

  12. Oh my god – three hours on a non-moving plane! My record is two hours and it was terrible. And yay for you for fulfilling a bucket list item! My first time on the west coast was San Francisco and oh man – that feeling when we were landing. Like nothing else. It was on my bucket list too. I’ve never done karaoke in my life. Maybe I should add that to my bucket list!
