Mia Hamm Honored as Mom Of The Year by Residence Inn by Marriott

Residence Inn By MarriottHonors Mia

Every year The Residence Inn by Marriott honors a Mom of The Year for outstanding leadership in the community. Last year’s honoree was the amazing Chef Cat Cora, this year they are honoring  the legendary Mia Hamm. A world renowned soccer star, philanthropist and mother, Mia Hamm was honored for her excellent work that she has accomplished with the Mia Hamm foundation.

There was a great interview with Mia as she talked about how hard it is to balance fitness with motherhood and everything else happening in life. (sound familiar?) she mentioned that she doesn’t always have time to go to the gym so she has mini workouts (as small as 15 minute sessions) in her garage. She even got one of the kids from the South Bronx United soccer league to join her in some exercise demonstrations. Which was actually quite hilarious!

The Residence Inn by Marriott donated $10,000 to Mia Hamm’s Foundation and they even had the big check to prove it! :)

Afterwards, the kids from the South Bronx United soccer league joined Mia on stage and took some pictures and got autographs. It was beautiful!

Once the interview was complete, we had the option to take a tour of the new Residence Inn by Marriott on 54th Street and Broadway. Of course I took it because I was curious about the space. The pictures below pretty much tell the story.

The rooms, gym facilities, hangout areas, breakfast bar (included in your reservation), deck–all of it was so insanely gorgeous. Everyone knows that NYC hotels are notoriously small but I really appreciate how they made use of the small space. There really was everything to make you feel at home, a dishwasher, microwave, dishes, coffeemaker, for goodness sake there is a Crockpot in the room!

If any of you are visiting NYC soon, I strongly recommend this hotel. The view (and proximity) to Central park AND Times Square can’t be beat!

What is the first amenity you look for in a Hotel? Are you a fan of Mia Hamm?

  2. I’m a big fan of Mia Hamm!! That is so great they honored her like that, and that you got to be a part of it.
The view from the hotel is gorgeous!! And yes, NYC hotels are soooo very small but that space looks great. The first thing I look for in a hotel is the luggage stand. I like to unpack right away and then go outside!

    • ha totally makes sense. I didn’t learn about luggage storage until much later in the game…smh I totally was planning around “check in time” when I could have gotten there earlier for sure.

  3. I cannot believe they even had a crockpot in the room. Insane and seriously would love to stay there :)

  4. I’m a huge fan of Mia Hamm!!!
In a hotel I like comfy beds and rooms with some space. The idea of a crock pot in the room is awesome – I pack mine when we are going a trip for over a week!!!

  7. How fun! I haven’t followed Mia Hamm’s career that much but she sounds amazing!

Hotel amenities…depends on where I’m staying! It might be proximity to the beach, a nice pool or a good restaurant onsite. We stayed at the Marriott for our wedding and it was pretty great!

  9. And now I’m craving big, fluffy waffles. Looks like a fun event! And that view is amazing. Sadly, the first thing I look at when booking a hotel is whether or not it fits within our current points balance!

  10. Looks like they made great use of the space available. I don’t mind being in a small room, unless it feels cramped and crowded. We are big Mia Hamm fans here…one year I even got my daughter an autographed pic for Christmas. Mia is her soccer hero!

  11. I’ve never heard of Mia Hamm. It sounds like she is doing a wonderful job in her community. I see definite similarities in the your interests with hers :) The hotel is very nice. I love that city view. The most important thing we look for is that it’s not too low quality because typically that means they may not have any pest problems under control. The other stuff like decorations and amenities usually are better at nicer hotels and I’m not usually too picky about those. :)
