OK OK I am only revealing all of which is asked of me! Michelle from A Dish Of Daily Life is my Ask Away Friday partner this week and I’m dishing it all! (get my little play on words?)
I met Michelle last May in NYC and she is one of my favorite bloggers! One of my top 5 commenters of last year, she is a very valued tribe member! You ever met someone and mesh right away? That is what happened with Michelle and I. It’s what first time blogger meet-up dreams are made of!
1) I am in awe of your energy and how much you accomplish. What’s your time management secret?
Thanks Michelle! I am not sure really. I think some people are just wired to be busy and I am one of those people. We are rare, but we are out there! Sitting still makes absolutely no sense to us, we are always looking for ways to properly use our time! My time management secret is simple, do what you can when you can. We have a lot of time in the day, it really about how you use every minute (I say this as I write this on my commute to work! :))
2) You are a inspiration to all of us with your workouts! Do you ever the a day off, and how often?
Absolutely!! I love working out but if I did it everyday I’d surely fall apart. I generally workout Mondays through Thursdays and I take off Fridays so I can have fresh rested legs to teach Zumba on Saturdays. I seldom workout on Sundays. This is all depending on a normal work week. Sometimes I travel, so the week gets flipped crazy.
3) Of all the different types of workouts that you do, what is your favorite and why?
It is a close race between Zumba and Spinning. Obviously I love Zumba because I love to teach and choreograph, however I started spinning about 7 years ago and I was so intimidated to even try. Now I love it, I make sure I attend at least one class a week.
4) I know you are speaking at Fitbloggin, which is very exciting!! Where other blog conferences are you planning to go to this year?
Apart from Fitbloggin, I am going to to California for the first time ever, and I am attending the motherload of conferences BlogHer! I honestly think the first time I went I was a bit too green and unknowing of this bloggy life. I hadn’t made a dime on my blog when I attended and now that I am very confident in my brand and what I have to offer, I will be attending with a totally different strategy.
I also have a couple more on the radar including BBC Philly, ALT Summit in NY, and Blogalicious depending on location.
5) Your boys are adorable! What is one of your personality traits that you see in your kids?
Dancing! All three of us like to start random dance parties for no reason. Whether it’s to TV show theme songs (big bang theory is our fav) or commercial songs or even Katy Perry’s “Roar” which the boys know every word to. We dance. Sometimes dad joins in most times he sits on the side and looks at us like we are nuts.
When I am practicing choreography in the house the baby always try to mimic my moves. It is beyond hysterical to see him try to salsa!
6) What would you do if you had to spend the day without technology? Could you do it easily or would it be hard?
I could absolutely do it. All I need is a great plot, a nice thick hardcover book, pj’s and my favorite blanket. I am a huge fan of reading and when I get into a book, I really don’t need much else.
7) What’s the best advice you ever gave or were given?
I don’t know if this is advice but one time I heard something on Oprah’s Life class that spoke to me.
The energy you put out is the same energy you receive.
This is a very important lesson. I used to be the kind of hot tempered girl (in my early 20s) that would cuss anyone out if I felt threatened or disrespected. The have been so many situations where I went completely off the rail and regretted it later. In the past few years I have not even let myself get that angry anymore. When folks have done something to me, I wish them well. I have literally stopped the negative energy from leaving my body.
When someone wrongs me, pushes me, makes me upset, I stop to think do I really feel like taking this to the next level? No. Not when I am so insanely blessed and grateful for God’s blessings. Although I used to be that girl that “popped off” at the drop of a dime–it is so much more satisfying to see someone’s reaction when I do the exact opposite.
So yeah, you definitely get the energy you put out.
8) I know you and I have discussed my love of food and the fact that I could never go on a diet! Do you have a food you would never give up?
Oh yes. Jamaican Oxtail and rice and peas is my favorite. It is what I grew up on being the first American born. I eat it often even though I am calorie counting. It gets tracked with everything else.
9) I’ve noticed that you offer a good mix of sponsored content on your blog? What advice would you give bloggers who aspire to working with brands?
Only accept sponsored offers that you believe in. It shows in your writing. Being a VIP Blogger for Duane Reade is the perfect match for me because I frequent the store 5 times a week in my normal life. Every single sponsored post I’ve done has been something I really believe in. I was offered an amazing opportunity to get print magazine coverage including a very nice check to go with it. However, the company wanted me for a diet where I would eat packaged foods for 3 months. I couldn’t ever eat such processed food in general and I wouldn’t for a check and all the media in the world. I don’t believe in it, point-blank.
Also, give your all regardless of the payment size. Give the same effort for the $500 post that you do for the $50 post. Quality should never waiver.
10) What do you hope to achieve with your blog this year?
Hmm I am excited about my newsletter most of all (if you haven’t signed up yet please do!!). Other than that I would love to continue to make decent bank from this here website, continue to pay bills and save some too. Other than that I will continue to share my journey as a mother, my weight loss journey and the most beautiful city in the world: NYC.
