Cook the pasta heavily salted boiling water. for 16-17 mins. Strain the water out afterwards and add the pasta to an oven safe dish with a 1 tbsp butter to keep it from sticking. While the pasta is boiling, make the cheese sauce. In a medium saucepan add the milk, American cheese, butter, and salt over medium heat.
Whisk until all ingredients have melted fully. Remove from heat and add in the other cheeses. Stir them until they are all melted. Allow the sauce to sit and thicken for about 5-7 mins.
Preheat the oven to 500 or turn on your broiler. After the sauce has thickened pour it over the noodles in the prepared dish. Add the additional 1 cup of shredded cheeses to the top.
Place in the oven to melt the cheese on top for about 5-6 mins. Remove from the oven and serve!
