The One Technique You NEED To Change Your Mood Right Now

by Nellie

Today we have a guest post from one of the most amazing people in my life, my step sister Ricci Jane Adams. She is an incredible human, mother and most recently author! Her best selling book Spiritually Fierce: are you ready to surrender to your unlimited self? Is doing SO well and for good reason! Today she is sharing a technique to help you get into (and stay in!) a good mood every single day. Enjoy!

The ONE technique you need to change your mood right now

The idea of mindfulness as a way to calm our anxiety and manage our stress has been part of the health and well-being conversation for a really long time, and for good reason. When we start to observe our thoughts as separate from us we are no longer in the tumble dryer of our emotions.

And now science is showing us that there is a tool available that is even more powerful than mindfulness. Managing our stressful thoughts is one thing. But what if we could actually go beyond managing our bad days to actively creating our good days? This is what is possible when work with a technique called Heart Coherence.

After the birth of second child my anxiety went through the roof. I was diagnosed with a generalised anxiety disorder and prescribed an antidepressant. But I wanted to do more than just manage my heavy feelings. So I started using Heart Coherence daily. It changed everything for me and within a year I was able to reduce my medication and then come off it completely. My experience has made me super excited to share what worked for me. It takes practice to live this way but it is so worth it. Instead of expending tons of energy on emotions like stress and worry, we find we are able to respond more creatively and positively to the events of our lives.

So how does Heart Coherence work? Let’s start with the science from HeartMath Institute, a leading scientific institution, who has shown that our physical heart sends more info to the brain than the other way around. The heart has a cluster of 40,000 neurons, the exact same matter as our brains, and when the head brain and the heart brain are in sync, we have a superhighway between these two major players in our body. Everything starts syncing, and we are in a state of optimal functioning.

Here is one SIMPLE technique that will keep you in a good mood forever and ever. Click to Tweet

So how do we get the heart brain and the head brain working together? HeartMath say that the secret to this is incredibly powerful and deceptively simple. We have to privilege our good feelings. Here’s the technique:

When you are experiencing a good feeling, for whatever reason, stick with it. Take it as far as you can. If you’re safe to do so, close down your eyes and deepen the breath. Recall all the other good things that have happened in the last 24 hours. It can be as simple as a smile from a stranger, a rock star car park, a picture painted by your five year old or your upcoming holiday. Instead of rushing back into the busy of your life, see how much you can expand into it. Imagine you are filling a balloon with all that good feeling. Do this for 3 minutes. Aim to do this once a day.

What you are doing is just like training a muscle of the body. We need to stick with it. We’ll notice the change happen over time as our ability to deal with our heavier emotions and darker days improves. The down swings last for less time. And we can switch from stress to ease with very little effort. It won’t happen straight away, but hey neither does that six pack. If we are ready to make the commitment the keys to our happy are right there in our hearts.

Spiritually Fierce: are you ready to surrender to your unlimited self?

It’s time to change the conversation about intuition. We should begin by asking ourselves one question… Do I know that I am pure, unlimited consciousness? If the answer is no, then this is the spiritual guidebook for you. Intuition expert and spiritual scholar, Ricci-Jane Adams talks about what it takes to move from knowing we are intuitive, to trusting and living our intuition. It is way beyond understanding we all have a sixth sense. It’s about walking the path of the heart’s intuitive intelligence, and there are specific steps we all must take to activate it in our lives. In these pages we will learn how to: • Apply the science of intuition to our daily lives • Master the governing laws of the Universe, and • Gain skill in the specific practices that activate our intuitive intelligence In this deeply personal story, Ricci-Jane shares her own pilgrimage of surrendering the trinkets and superstitions of the new age to reclaim her spiritual fierceness, wild abundance and unlimited intuition. Spiritual fierceness comes when we are willing to meet our fear every single day, and make the choice for love. It’s the only commitment we need to make to activate our intuitive intelligence, and meet our unlimited selves.

Oh I absolutely LOVE this and it’s so needed for me right now. I’m taking a breath, a step back, and I’m definitely relishing in just feeling good and doing what I want to do instead of what I have to do. I’m going to try that happiness meditation once a day!!

When I am in a bad mood I listen to music or take a time out in my closet and sit in a corner. It helps to try and write stuff down to because I want to know how I can overcome my mood to make me better and learn why I am angry in the first place. Great post!

Pretty awesome. Good feelings. Stick with them.
I had severe anxiety after the birth of my second as well. I never got medication but I’ve been using a handful of tools to combat it. This seems like such a powerful one.

Love this! I am a big proponent of mindfulness and consciously trying to be in the moment while cultivating positivity and gratitude. It can absolutely turn a “bad” day around! I love the idea of heart coherence – I mean is there a person alive who couldn’t benefit from practicing that??
