Weekly Wednesday Workout: Plank Row With Dumbbells
This move is one of those moves that works the body all around, I am highly familiar with this move as we used to do it in my old total body class ALL the time. I am glad I found it because I needed a refresher, I really haven’t done this in a super long time.
When I do this move I feel it all through my back, I try not to go too heavy on the dumb bells (maybe 5 or 8lbs?) and staying in the plank position is not easy. My instructor used to give us a nice modification of putting our knees on the floor…and believe it or not there is still a lot of work being done in the modified position. If you don’t have dumb bells you can try it with a full water bottle, or even with nothing to start. 🙂

All planks are a challenge for me!
me too girl. When I see peeps do em for over 3 minutes, I am seriously impressed.
I think that move is support difficult – I think it is because it hurts my hands staying in plank while on a DB. Sometimes if I’m doing high reps of those, I put my hand on the floor next to the DB and just pick it up for the row (probably a total cheat but I can get it done that way!!).
Its hard for sure. I notice the pain in my hands as well, but I just try to get through the two or three sets. I will try your way next time!
I haven’t even tried plank rolls without dumbbells! 😉 This looks super hard, and it would probably kill me!-Ashley
It won’t kill you! LOL you swear everything I post on WWW is gonna make you keel over or break something!
I don’t think I can do this one you know I tried it before I typed it lol
this is not easy!
I haven’t done planks with weights in a really long time, but I definitely could do this. And I actually like planks!
you like planks?! you are better than me! lol
That looks so hard..but I bet I could do one or so! haha. Maybe two?
its not so bad!
((gurgle) I avoid this move because it hurts my hands. I don’t even know why, Me and my weak-handed self. Humph
I definitely don’t think its just you! It gets really uncomfortable after a while…
Are dumb bell planks easier than regular planks? It seems more difficult resting with your arms straight than on your elbows. I think starting with not weights and on my knees might be the way to go for me.lol
absolutely not! its so much harder!! Its way more difficult on your forearms in my opinion.
Do them all the time! I actually think the worse part is how bad it hurts your hands putting your body weight onto the one arm holding you up with a dumbbell in it.
[…] and do them for 30 seconds, then move on to the next exercise during the circuit. I am a fan of the plank in many variations but this one is a fun twist! I definitely think it is better when I am moving during a plank that […]
