Easy Copycat Raising Canes Texas Toast

Prep Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Additional Time: 45 minutes
Total Time: 3 hours

This copycat raising cane's texas toast is so good and yummy to make as a side dish or a snack!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 pack) instant dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm whole milk
  • 3.5 cups of all-purpose flour, scooped and leveled
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened and cubed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg + 1 tsp water (egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat milk for 30 seconds in the microwave. 
  2. Add to the bowl of a stand mixer with 1 cup all-purpose flour and the yeast. 
  3. Mix until combined. 
  4. Cover with a towel and let sit for 30 mins so the yeast can bloom. 
  5. After 30 mins add in the eggs, flour, sugar, and salt.
  6. Add in the cubed butter 
  7. Knead on medium speed with a dough hook for 20 mins. 
  8. Add to an oiled bowl, cover with a towel, sit in a warm area and let rise for one hour
  9. Remove the dough from the bowl (it will be sticky-use flour on your hands)
  10. Cut the dough in half.
  11. Place the first half on a lightly dusted surface and press out with your hands.
  12. Cut into 6 pieces.
  13. (you will need extra flour)
  14. Flatten each piece out. Then fold one side to the center and the other side on top. *see photos
  15. Flatten with your finger, now turn the dough, and roll it tightly.
  16. Place into a baking dish sprayed with baking spray.
  17. Repeat this action for each slice.
  18. Let sit for another 30 mins
  19. Brush with egg wash and add sesame seeds 
  20. Bake for 30 mins

Toast

  1. Add butter to each side and toast the bread on each side before serving.

Notes

Work quickly as the dough will start rising again when making the "logs" of dough.

Make them as tight as possible, they will expand.

Make the logs longer rather than shorter (short logs will equal thick slices of bread)

I used Fleischmann's instant yeast plus rapid rise
