A Girls Night Out at the Go Red For Women Celebrity Fashion Show

It’s Fashion Week in New York City!

I remember when I used to see glimpses of NYFW on Sex and The City–I would always be so heart eyed emoji and wondered what it was like to be in the audience witnessing high fashion on the runway with all of the lights and glamour. Who knew that I’d get to experience New York Fashion Week many times, for fun! My first really cool show was Oiselle and who could forget the Angela Simmons show that was SO much fun. Every time I get the opportunity to attend a show, I am grateful, simply because each show is so fun and exhilarating in it’s own special way.

Go Red For Women Celebrity Fashion Show

A few weeks ago, the amazing folks at the National Institute of Health’s National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), reaching out to me to see if I wanted to partner to promote heart health and join them at the Go Red For Women Red Dress Fashion Show in Manhattan on February 7.

Initially, I got a ticket for myself and one more, so I invited one of my oldest friends to come with me–then the NHLBI offered me a few more tickets and just like that it became girls night!

The event was held at the famous Manhattan Center, when we walked in there was RED everywhere, lights, dresses–you name it. We absolutely stopped to take some pics on the red carpet. There was a open wine and beer bar so we grabbed some Prosecco and made our way in.

I was so excited to be apart of the VIP seating. We were super close to the stage and although I forgot my battery to the big camera (sorry y’all) I was able to take some great pictures with my iPhone.The host of the night was the amazing Padma Lakshmi who I have watched on EVERY season of Top Chef, so I was completely fan-girling.

When the runway show started we were greeted mega-stars including Eve, Skai Jackson, Bo Derek, Sherri Shepherd, Sheinelle Jones, Susan Lucci, Laurie Hernandez and so many more! Everyone looked AMAZING and so happy–the energy in the room was so fantastic.

After the runway show was over we were treated to a live performance from Eve who performed her amazing hits Rich Girl, Tamborine, and Who’s That Girl? OMG We we all in there getting our LIFE. It was SO fun, and it brought me back to my college days! Plus DAMN how fine is EVE?!

Heart health is SO important especially for black women. Time and time again we hear these stories of women who didn’t know they had heart issues until it was too late. We need to take bette care of ourselves. Exercise, healthy eating and all of that is fantastic but the simple task of being checked out by a doctor to make sure everything is okay is critical too–especially if heart issues run in your family.
