A year ago when I attended my first Zumba instructor training my teacher Jani said something very interesting that stuck with me:
90% of the world doesn’t exercise. It’s your job to not only get them there, but to keep them there.
This statistic seemed so off to me. I had been in the gym since I was 19 years old so this sounded so foreign! What do you mean people don’t workout? Like, people don’t see the amazing gift we have been blessed with to be able to move our bodies?
It wasn’t until I was teaching my own regular class did I understand. I was actually the odd ball out! I have so many friends and family that complain daily about weight and body issues yet no one is willing to do the work. Some people generally don’t like exercise!
When I was 19 years old and in my junior year of college I met a instructor that made me feel so good about myself. I was about 20-25lbs heavier than I am now but completely out of shape. The gym I was attending was Ballys and they had a special dance class going. My mom encouraged me to go to the gym by paying for my gym fees.
It was a 6 week dance class where students would learn (hard) choreography for the Pink song “Get This Party Started” there was a nationwide contest for a prize to actually dance with pink. I practiced and practiced and showed up to class every week. When it was over the instructor begged me to go to the auditions. I was too self conscious to do it but she really gave me the confidence to conquer other fitness goals. She is a great example of someone who was stepping up for health!
She stepped up and encouraged me when I didn’t believe in myself. There are so many of you that do this on a daily basis, and I bet you know more than a few people that do the same thing in your communities!
You could win a FitBit Activity Tracker ($99 value) by sharing a story of how either you or someone you know has stepped up in your community to be healthy.
All you have to do is click here and share who is stepping up in your community. Whether it’s you, or even someone you know virtually–enter the story then come back here and leave a comment below letting me know you entered!
You guys already know how obsessed I am with my fitbit activity tracker! I wear it every single day without fail, I use it seamlessly with my fitness pal and I have been known to practice a Zumba song or two at 11pm to get to my 10k daily goal. 🙂 I’ve had one for over 2 years now and I love it!
The contest will go on for 2 weeks and will end on December 10th, 2013. Be sure to enter your story then comment below and let me know, the winner will be drawn randomly from the comments. Good luck!
