Road To The NYC Marathon: The Final Post

by Nellie

Friday Fitness (1)The final post before the big race.

You must know that I spent weeks thinking about what I would write today. I wondered if I’d be too in my head to even write anything at all. Maybe I should be funny and fill the post with gifs and one liners. Or maybe I should be super reflective about the blood, sweat and straight up sacrifice I put into training for this marathon. Or maybe I should not write anything at all and leave you hanging–but you know I couldn’t do that right?
Truth of the matter is that it’s been a hard week–and it has ZERO to do with the race. My mom went out of town which, as you know, throws me into utter tailspin. Add the fact that my current job situation isn’t even 10% as flexible as my old job it was left to my husband to make all the sacrifice, and even though I did it for YEARS it still sucked to be so rigid and unable to help.

I didn’t have the best week at work, which has been occurring a lot more lately and my husband and I have been at odds too which rarely happens but when it does. Oy. It’s like a Cold War up in this house.

So that was my week.

The Big Day is Here!IMG_5579

I’ve been excited. This week I’ve read more NYC marathon running tips than anyone should ever read. Seriously. I haven’t memorized the map. I haven’t “made a plan”. I plan to break up the race in 6’s. I have purchased goodies.
The weather has decided to cooperate in the most amazing way. At last check 64 degrees and cloudy. Yes. Please.

My Godmom and my best friend are coming to see me. I have my husband meeting me at the end somewhere with the kids. IMG_5591

I’ve been hydrating like a maniac and doing random yoga in my bathroom to stay calm. It’s been working.
I will have Clif shots, sports beans and mini snickers. Tylenol, wipes and spare cash–hell I might even have my go pro.

Tonight I get to go to the house that I raised money for and break bread (literally!) with my teammates. I will be wearing my #teamronald jersey loud and proud on race day because it means something deeper than just me.

Regardless of the crazy that is happening in my personal life I am running for the children with rare cancers that get treated like kings and queens at the House. That simple little fact will keep me moving forward. A year ago I made a vow that I would do this and here it is, I am following through with the promise I made to myself. I’m excited, I’m happy and I’m looking forward to crossing the finish line. IMG_5595
I especially look forward to doing my first 26.2 in the city that I am so deeply rooted. Born and raised, through good and bad these five boroughs have written my DNA. I couldn’t do this anywhere else.
I’m ready. Let’s do this.
If you guys want to track me my number is 67001. Send me all the good vibes, and good wishes, I will feel them as I always do. <3

How was your fitness and wellness week? How do you focus on a big goal despite a crazy week?

I can barely type I’m so nervous and excited!!!! I’m so sorry you are so overwhelmed this week but I bet a lot of it is stemming from anxiety about the race. I’m always in a total funk personally and sometimes with work, when I have a big race looming! Hang in there and all will be right with the world when that gun goes off. Remember why you are out there and I’ll be tracking you all the way to the finish!!! I’ve got nothing but love for you!!

Nellie!!! I am SOOOOO excited for you! You will forget that crappy week as soon as you’re on the Staten Island Ferry. I think I told you running NYC is on the same level for me as having my babies and getting married. I will be tracking you online from up here. I am blown away by your drive and commitment to train, fundraiser and run this race. You are truly an inspiration to me. Run strong and have the time of your life (and it’s very much like childbirth in that the horrible, painful parts fade as soon as you reach the finish). xoxo

Oh girl – us too. A cold war! So tough. We made up by him doing a funny surprise. I got an email confirming my hotel reservation at the Marriott by the Brooklyn Bridge. I was like, “What?” The reservation was made under Cassidy’s name and said two people. I was like, “Is there something you need to tell me?”
He said, “This is my way of telling you that Craemer (his good friend) is getting married that weekend. Be my date?”

I said yes! So I’ll be in Brooklyn in April!

Also, I’ll be thinking of you a LOT this weekend.

When I have a bad week my whole mantra is off. I gotta get to some music and clear my mind or else everyone gets cussed out. You got this and I am so proud of you. Once it’s over come and tell us all the juicy details and save me a bear
