Hi guys!!
Happy Friday!
I had a short work week this week so I’m not as frazzled as I normally am–I’m pretty sure I need every week to be a three day work week (with the same pay!).
So, how’s marathon training going? Glad you asked!
Not quite sticking to the plan
At this part of my training plan I am supposed to be doing really long runs then shorter ones the next week as a recovery. Welp I didn’t keep that in mind when I scheduled my 18 mile tune up a couple of weeks ago. So now I’m a week ahead and trying to stay on track.
The hardest part about this marathon training is still, finding time to train. You guys don’t even know how excited I was when my husband went home early and allowed me to get 6 miles after work because I didn’t have to get the kids!! #winning! Unfortunately that is not an everyday occurrence and I have to somehow get my miles even if it’s a measly 3 miles during my lunch break.
But Nellie didn’t you know this was going to take a lot of time before you signed up?!
When I decided to run this marathon I didn’t see the time required as a problem. At my old job my hours were much more flexible and I got out of work earlier. I definitely didn’t think I’d actually make the leap of getting a new job and I didn’t expect my schedule to be so rigid. Add to that having to run home and do homework with the kids, it’s really been almost impossible to train the way I expected to. Maybe I should have found another job AFTER marathon training? I ask myself this everyday.
Alas, these are the cards I’m dealt. With 4 weeks left I am so ready for it to be over. This was a commitment that was beyond my comprehension but at the same time I’m happy I did it because of what it taught me about myself (for another post!).
Bronx 10 Miler
I would do a full recap on this race but it was really such a blur. I wore my Champion gear (more to come on that!) and it was great–that marathon bra seriously has NO chafing!!
I finished part three of four races to guarantee me into my bucket list race–the NYC Half and the fourth is next weekend in Staten Island!!
20 Miler
This weekend marks a pretty amazing milestone in training–the 20 mile run. Originally I planned to run 20 miles with 7 miles and a half marathon in between…but the weather is making me think twice. The last thing I want to do is 20 miles on the treadmill but desperate times…..

Girl, I am in AWE every time I read your marathon recaps on Fridays. In awe and secretly jealous! I love how despite not having the time, you are MAKING the time. It’s a lesson that I’m trying to teach myself. Switching up my priorities over here because, there is that Disney half coming up that I need to start training for…
I’m laughing because it’s such a huge time commitment I haven’t a clue how you fit it in with a full time job, the blog, the other full time job of the kids and oh yes, the other full time job of the kid’s homework! I seriously did my 19 miler on a Wednesday this past week and it’s pretty much all I did since running for 3 hours is nuts!
The longest I have gone on a treadmill is 14 miles but my friend was running right next to me so we chatted the entire time! I would go outside unless it’s a serious hurricane, which at this point, I think it’s missing us!
Aw, you are doing great Nellie and can’t even begin to imagine how much time practicing for a marathon would take. But just hope you know how proud I am of you and that you should definitely proud of yourself, too. Hugs and wishing you only the best in the next few weeks to come now 😉
The longest I’ve run on a treadmill is 7 miles…and that was on vacation! Good luck on your long run! Can’t wait to find out how your race goes!
I’m not a huge runner but I actually used to run a lot a few years ago and I always ran on the treadmill, never outside. How funny is that?
My fitness and health week were pretty awesome as I finally got to go back to some of my favorite classes for a few days.
I have never run on a treadmill, truth be told!
And the health this week.. not my best. Not enough vegetables and I paid for that. My body tells me it’s unhappy! I’ll get a pimple or something.
I get what it’s like to have flexible hours at a job, and then not at a new one.
Marathon training is no joke. I remember the husband’s training runs for his half marathon taking 2+ hours. I can’t even imagine double the mileage. But only a few weeks left. You’ve got this. I’m sure of it!
