My very first trip to Atlantic City.
When I went to get my pro skills certification a couple of moths ago, I heard about an event that was being held in Atlantic City at the end of September. I was intrigued because if it got the approval of Jani Roberts then it had to be solid.
I looked up the pricing for the event: reasonable. Hotel stay? Even more reasonable. Just like that I planned a short one night getaway for me and my husband! Since the event was only 90 minutes, we’d be together practically the whole time.
Since we are not gamblers and the lure of winning money does nothing for us, we had no plans of going to the casinos.
When we got there however, the bus line gave us $60 in credits to use at a nearby casino. We decided to sit down at the 25c slots and play that $60 until it finished and called it a day. We ended up winning about $100 and the bus tickets were $40 each so we really rode for free plus made an additional $20. Not too shabby!
We entered the Borgata around 3pm and the lines to check in were so so long. I’ve never waited so long to get checked in!
The hotel grounds were flawless, beyond the casinos being the first thing you see there were also many many restaurants including fine dining right down to fast food. The choices are really endless.
After we checked in and got settled we jumped downstairs to fatburger, which was okay. We toured the grounds some more and then I had to get ready for Tanya!
A little backstory on Tanya Beardsley, she used to be one of the main girls of Zumba, she used to travel the world with her partner Gina Grant until she decided to step down from Zumba. This was not a Zumba event–it was dancing in the light.
The event was a lot of fun. Tanya does an amazing job of getting folks out of their heads and loosening up. Since I was by myself at the event, I was a little wary about dancing freely. She loosened us all up pretty quickly and before you knew it all of us were just freestyling and just having a great time.
Since there were no pictures allowed I didn’t have any from the actual event. The ballroom was beautiful, it was a wide open space with plenty of room to shake your tailfeather.
When that was over, I met my husband back in the room, got ready and headed off for dinner. We ate a meh dinner at the metropolitan and then I had gelato for the first time ever. It was pretty epic.
The next morning we slept in (8am!) And went to the indoor pool which was simply beautiful. After that we went to the breakfast buffet as it was pretty inexpensive ($15pp) I got full pretty quickly, the food was so great!
Somehow in an attempt to go home we ended up at the Tanger Outlets and we shopped and shopped. I picked up somethings for me, the kids and he picked up some clothes too.
Finally after a ton of traffiic, we made it home. I can’t wait to go back!!

Yes and Yes! When I go I usually set a $100 budget per day. Anything I win over,I can keep going but if I goin the hole, it’s a wrap. Y’all came out good seeing as how you were forced to try it, lol, that getaway sounds perfect..all though, your meh meals have been 1 too many lately 🙁 , hate when that happens.
I know it wasn’t like it was unhealthy. It was just….gross. Lol! I like your casino strategy, maybe I will try that next time!
Haven’t been to Atlantic City since my early twenties. My husband and I also aren’t big gamblers, so we never think of going there for any real reason, but you made it sound truly awesome and may need to do any overnight trip sometime in the future. And that gelato looked divine!! 🙂
I had no idea atlantic city was more than gambling! I think the borgata had so much to offer with the indoor pools live entertainment and such that we didn’t even think about the casinos. You should try to get out sometime soon!
I’ve never been to Atantic City! that hotel looks awesome.
And I.LOVE.GELATO. #thatisall
Gelato is so yummy! I have been under a rock, clearly.
What a great event! I have the Zumba DVDs with Tanya on them. She’s amazing!
I go to casinos when I’m on a cruise but that’s it. I haven’t been to Atlanta but my sisiter has and she really enjoyed it.
She is so great, she has so much talent. Wow.
Atlantic City is great, I can’t speak for the whole town but where I went was awesome.
Fun! I love Atlantic City! :)-Ashley
🙂
I love your gambling style! Play to cover the bus and win $20 and we are good. I’m pretty risk adverse so that’s how I would gamble as well!
Yeah there is something about losing my own money. I don’t think I could handle it! 🙂
Atlantic City is on my list of places to visit soon! It looks like you had a wonderful time and I’m glad you and the hubby got to spend some alone time!
Yes me and the hubby rarely get to go anywhere these days so it was nice.
My last getaway..I shudder to remember when. Probably before Des.
I used to go to Atlantic City a lot when I lived in central Jersey! We’d travel down and make a night or weekend out of it for birthdays and whatnot. I’m not much of a gambler. I do a few slots and I am pretty fierce (and rude) when playing Bingo. Like I loudly groan when someone else wins. (What a great sport, right?)
I love the Borgata. It is FUNKY!
OMG I can imagine how serious you get about Bingo! I’ve never played bingo outside of a birthday party setting. Clearly, I need to try.
What an amazing get-away and the lights in the casino are crazy-awesome! How cool that you walked away with winnings, I’ve only been to one casino in my life and lost the $20 I went in there with.
Thanks for stopping by Anita! I feel like $20 is the maximum I could lose like ever.
Not gonna lie – I love casinos and playing Craps!!!
I usually set a limit each time I play and when it’s gone, I’m done!
On a trip to Vegas one year when Chris had a conference to attend and I tagged along I made $500 during the week. I bought a week pass for the gym so I spent the morning working out, the afternoon gambling with the old men and the evenings exploring with Chris – it was awesome!!!
ha omg! There were some serious old men playing in those casinos! I can only imaging you in there with them, hilarious!
What a fun getaway! I can’t believe you won $100 – that is fantastic. Looks like it was beautiful and you both really enjoyed yourselves. Good for you.
Thanks Allie, it was a nice getaway. It was only one night but it really felt like 3 or 4 🙂
I’ve never been to Atlantic city and I can’t even remember when our last child free getaway was. We need to do better! That hotel looks amazing and so does that gelato!
Even for one night Miranda, it does wonders for the spirit! 🙂
I’ve never been to AC but my sister-in-law goes a couple of times a year. The hotel looks very nice. The only times I’ve been to casinos have been on cruises.
Hubby and I haven’t had a getaway in 2 years:(
You guys gotta get away! Even for one evening! It is so worth it, even if you stay local.
I love Atlantic City. It’s where we go on those quick and spontaneous getaways and we don’t even gamble. Next time you go to Borgata, I suggest the Japanese hibachi restaurant, Izakya. It’s a bit expensive but the food is so good and the service is amazing.
And for those who aren’t big gamblers, I highly suggest Harrah’s. The Pool at Harrah’s is simply amazing. My husband and I just sit there all day and relax.
I really think I want to try Harrahs next time, that sounds divine!!
I love my money waaaay too much to gamble it away so I’m with you, girl on not being big on the casinos. Glad you won a little though. That’s always a plus, and glad you got to take in such a cool event. And that gelato? Woah!
