Fashion Week is here in New York City!
I am always super excited for fashion week because it’s when all the big girls come to play in the Fashion Olympics–except everyone is a winner because individual style is usually an awesome expression of oneself.
When I think about fashion week in NYC I think Samantha Jones (Sex and the City) getting tickets for her friends for all the shows. Not only are the fashion designers putting their best style on display for the world, but the everyday citizens are putting on a show of their own.
Yesterday, Essence Magazine kicked off the start to New York Fashion Week by throwing a Street style Block Party. The party was open to the public and boy did they come out in style!
There were lots of great vendors present, my favorite ones were selling the best colors, patterns and fabrics.
Jazmine Sullivan also performed to a very large crowd and she did not disappoint! That girl can sang!
Shea Moisture was also on hand giving free face painting for the kids, makeovers and massages. The lines for these services were around the corner!
My favorite part of the block party were the special models standing on top of the cars, looking absolutely perfect with the designers doing interviews just a few feet away.
The first annual Essence Magazine Street Style Block Party was fantastic. Very well put together and the perfect kickoff for what is going to be an extremely fun fashion week in NYC! Stay tuned for more #nyfw coverage on the blog 🙂

That looked like a lot of fun! I love some of those patterns. I think I need a wardrobe overhaul!
So cool!!! I love the models, just standing there like “yep, I’m the bomb!” I was invited to the Oiselle party there but it’s on a Tuesday night so I can’t make it. Totally bummed 🙁
Thanks for sharing!!! I miss this so much about NY!
Totally used to love Fashion Week, when I was younger and could go into the city more for some of the happenings, but huge thank you for sharing here and excited to see more coverage from you 🙂
I think I would love going to fashion week!!
I love the model with the yellow glasses and denim shorts – really I love her hair!!! I wish my hair could look like that – wrong texture though!!
I got invited to attend NYFW but I am not a fashionista and I don’t have anyone on my team that could have went but I know if I was into fashion like that I would have been there. Can’t wait to see more coverage.
New York Fashion week seems so so exciting! I’m not a fashionista, but I always think I would really enjoy myself!
Oh heck yes! So much fun! I’m not very into fashion, but I’m into fun and colorful parties and people watching!
I always love vivid and bold colors. That’s how I roll.
This event looks like a lot of fun! I love when individuals express themselves through fashion so boldly like this! Have fun this week darlin’!
All those beautiful colors. I love it!
Wow! This looks like such a cool event!! I love the vibe and all the colors. You are so right that everyone wins because style is so individual.
I Loooooooooove this recap. It was so great seeing you yesterday. The vendors were fantastic. I wish I had more time to visit and really shop. Martine’s Dream was one of the vendors and have a shop right on Nostrand!
It’s no surprise to me that you would be all over fashion week! I love that you aren’t afraid to go bold. It looks like color is going to continue to be a big part of next spring…which is all good in my mind!
Another good reason to love NYC! It was nice meeting you last weekend in Philly.
