How are all of you? It’s been a super hard past 48 hours. America is in a state of chaos and I’m not handling it quite that well. After I heard about the senseless killing of Alton Sterling and then not even 24 hours later the killing of Philando Castile, it was so much to bear. Although I don’t know them personally it feels as if I lost two family members, related to me by skin color.

It’s been a hard few days.

In the meantime, let’s talk marathon training shall we? It’s a pretty great distraction from the insanity.

Can you believe that I am about to complete my third week of marathon training? I haven’t been feeling the strongest but also, I’ve been dealing with a few crazy transitional things, and yes, the announcement is coming soon…I want to make sure I do it right. I have a feeling once all the crazy is done I will be able to concentrate a bit more on marathon training and hopefully have some stronger training stories for ya but here goes!

Monday: On July 4th, I did a very nice six and a half mile run on the treadmill. It was way too hot outside, so I walked 4 blocks down to my new Blink Fitness and went for it. Did I mention how amazing it is to have a full solid gym so close to my house?!! I know this is all a side effect of hardcore Brooklyn gentrification, but I’m not mad! Previously my closest gym was about a mile away in a shady neighborhood. This one being steps away from my home is a total God send! Not to mention $15 a month…yas.

Tuesday: Straight up weights! I did a lot of squats, lunges, bent over rows, deadlifts, shoulder raises, you name it. Weights day is my absolute favorite day of the week. Although the sore is so real, I feel stronger every single time I do it.

Wednesday: 3 miles on the struggle bus. I had no energy–likely because of the current news situation–but I pushed through the longest 3 miles I’ve run in a really long time. There will be plenty of these off runs during training (I remember them from last year!) so I’m used to it.

Saturday: I hope to get a long-ish run in, the plan calls for 6 miles but it will be really hot outside. The treadmill and I are best friends at this point.

I just do not even know what to say about everything that has been happening in our country over the past several days and then the news about Dallas this morning. I just literally have no words but cannot begin to understand any of this from your perspective. xo

As for marathon training – keep your head up and get on that treadmill as much as you need to during this heat wave. Stay hydrated, stay focused and be excited!!!! 🙂

I am also at a loss and speechless, as well. Seriously and sadly though nothing in our country or world seems to shock me though. That said truly not right or fair though by any means. But still hugs to you and wishing I had the words at the very least to make a bit of a difference myself.

I can definitley relate to what you said about it being a hard couple of days – my heart aches for the state of our country.

Looks like your training is going well! I am also a fan of the treadmill when it’s way too hot outside to run!

Great job on your training! I can’t wait to follow your progress. I have a Blink fitness down the block and love the ease and cost as I only go there 1-2 times a month but even that pays out since it’s only $15!!

Big party weekend so probably bad for fitness/health. Boo!

I was off Facebook for about two days and I’m still catching up. I read all about Philando Castile, and it makes me feel sick in every part of my body. Like suffering sick.
I still have to read about Alton, and make sure I speak his name and share his story.

I am reading but I am also doing the work because opinions and hashtags won’t cut it. I have started to eat more…..so that I don’t eat once a day so that has been good for me. Hard but good!

Nice work on your training. That is so cool that the gym is so close and inexpensive!

I’m back in NYC this weekend! Hitting up classes and madly trying to remind Cooper he was BORN here by showing him a good time!
