How was your weekend?
It was one of those weekends where the excursions blurred into one another and just like that we were waking up for Monday morning shenanigans all over again.
I woke up early on Saturday morning to attend a community interest meeting for the New York Road Runners Open Run Series. I was CRAY excited to see my local park, the one where I did my 20 mile run in, have a great series like the Open Run.
What is the an Open Run?
Through this initiative, New York Road Runners is working with community leaders and volunteers to bring free weekly runs to local neighborhood parks all over NYC. All runs are directed by volunteers and are free to all participants.
It was an awesome turnout! There were at least 20 people in the room, and we walked the new route. I even signed up to be a volunteer Run Director! I guess I’m officially a runner. 🙂
Emergency Action Meeting
One of my local colleges held a meeting hosted by the Brooklyn NAACP to come together and talk about all that has been happening with the Black Lives Matter movement and all the trauma we have collectively experienced on social and traditional media. I mentioned last week that personally the videos and images did a number on me emotionally and really I haven’t been able to function properly since.
The meeting provided some concrete next steps and lots of community leaders and members expressed the same type of feelings that I felt. It was comforting to say the least. There is a lot to be done but I am willing to be on the front lines when it comes to protecting my kids, friends, and family.
Secret Life Of Pets
We have been waiting for this movie for a REALLY long time. The boys have been counting down the days since we attended the event with all the fun toys and merch in February!
The boys really loved the movie, but I noticed that there were a LOT of adults there without children. As a result, there were a lot more adult laughs than kids laughs. My husband and sister in law were laughing the most! It was definitely a funny movie, most of the time I really wasn’t sure what was about to happen. There were some really intense parts in the beginning that I felt was a bit strong, but in the end it all worked itself out.
I can absolutely see a sequel coming, especially if it does well. It was super cute and really quite honestly Kevin Hart’s character “Snowball” was the BEST. He deserves a movie all on his own. 🙂
