Happy Friday Friends!!
How are you?
There have been some significant changes in my life this week—most importantly I GOT A NEW JOB. Yes, a new job with a pretty big pay increase and great benefits. Since I have been at my current job for nine years the departure has been nothing less than emotional. What is it like to leave a position after so long? That deserves its own separate sappy post. 🙂
Most of all, I am happy.
More on that soon. In the meantime let’s get into Friday Fitness shall we?
-
Monday: 4 Miles
-
Tuesday: Spin Class (Peloton)
-
Wednesday: **double header!** 30 minute personal training session (early) HIIT class (late)
-
Thursday: 4 Miles
-
Saturday: Long run (6 or 7 miles? Maybe more?)
OH MY GOSH. Marathon Training has been sneaking up on me slowly and finally it’s here. Looking over the plan it looks fairly manageable—I will be running 4 times a week which is not what I am used to (3 day a week girl here) so that will be an adjustment. The fact that I am even marathon training hasn’t event really settled in yet. I think I might be the first in my family to complete a marathon—not to add any additional pressure to myself but this is kind of a big deal.
Now with the new job it will be SUPER interesting trying to figure out WHEN to get my miles in. Thankfully there is a Blink Fitness on the same block as my new job, but what will I do when training calls for me to run 8 miles during the week? Since I am a slow runner that would mean I’d have to carve out a 2 hour block for running which is insane when I have children to pick up and drop off plus that little thing called a full time job. I will figure it out though. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Don’t forget I am running the NYC Marathon for charity! You can donate to the Ronald McDonald House on my behalf by clicking here. Any donations are appreciated!!
I have to quickly get used to the fact that I am not going to be able to cross train as much as I used to—at least for 4 months. I can deal right? I have already suspended teaching Zumba at the dojo until after marathon training.
This week I went to my favorite cycling studio Peloton Cycle for an amazing Rolling Stones ride that was so great. I also found myself doing a lot of pushups and body weight exercises with the personal training session at Blink (review and giveaway coming soon!) and a HIIT session with Jabra Sports Coach (review upcoming as well) that kicked my tail later on that day.
NYRR has a pretty light schedule during the summer which is good—they won’t tempt me to run in the heat. 🙂 My next race is at the end of August—it’s the inaugural France 8k which is super interesting because it falls on a week where I have to do 14 miles of training. Looks like I will be spending lots of extra time in Central Park.
Thank you guys so much for all the tweets, retweets, facebook shares and support of my Amanda Bingson Post. She actually was sweet enough to reply to the post I wrote:

I love her.
How was your fitness and wellness week? Have any marathon training tips for me?

You never cease to amaze me woman!! Congratulations on everything you have accomplished over this past week…which of course was a long time coming. I have to say that Bingson is even cooler then I thought. When I tweeted from your post, she RT and favorited it. WHAT? I was not expecting that! Very, very cool and I love the tweet she sent you – so deserved!
As for your 8 milers during the week – any chance you can split them? Four in the morning and four in the afternoon? Lots of runners split distances because of time!! LMK if I can help in any way!!! I wish I could take those munchkins from you and have them play with my boys while you run. Maybe you should just move to CT while you’re marathon training 🙂
you KNOW we are cheering you on here in the ATX.
And Im watching to see how you fit in those miles during the week too.
I dont run but my walk is SLOOOOW so I always look at plans and think: CRAP CAINT.
<3
You have most definitely had an awesome week and saw you share about the new job on Facebook. Huge congrats on that and getting tweeted back by Amanda Binson herself, too! You totally deserve all the good coming to you and seriously just so happy for you, my friend!! 🙂
Congratulations on the new job!!im so excited for you to begin your marathon training. I just trying to sign up for my second HALF lol. Are you running Disney next year?
Good luck with your training! Wow, I have no idea how you will get all that done, but somehow I know you will figure it out.
I’m the first person in my family to run a half. My family are not runners. My brother has done a few 5ks, but he’s not really a runner.
So, yes, the 2 hour runs are going to be tough. I had a similar situation with my marathon training and I think you need to feel felxible moving those 8 mile runs into 2 chunks if needed (an hour in the morning and maybe an hour in the evening) and call it good enough. Keep reminding yourself that marathon training is like the Sabbath – marathon training was made for Nellie, Nellie was not made for marathon training;). I always lived by that the long runs were non-negotiable but I had a 70% rule on the other runs – if I got in 70% of them, I was still on track. Your experience may vary but when you’re a full time working momma you do what you can!!
Congrats on everything. My hubs has been at his job for 10 years and he is needing a change trying to get into his degree of IT and it’s been hard. I can’t imagine leaving but we all need growth we don’t grow if we don’t move.
I think it’s so amazing about your new job! And nine years – sheesh! I lasted four years at my last job and that impressed me. However, my longest relationship before Cassidy was only about 2-3 years so I blew that one out of the water too.
Whee!
EEEEEPPPSSSS A NEW JOB!!!! AND MARATHON TRAINING! My goodness you’ve got super powers! I don’t know how you do it ALLLLLLLL Nellie!!! And I am beyond thrilled we finally got to MEET 🙂 Not long enough of a meeting, but still, I am thrilled!
Congrats on the new job! I just started back with spin last week and I’m hoping to find the willpower to sign up for a 10k before the year is out!
Congrats on the new job, Nellie! I hope that it provides a little extra cushion for you somehow (more time with the kids, more flexibility, stepping stone to reaching your long-term goals, etc.). As for marathon training, I’m sure it’s going to be extra tough, but if anyone can do it, I know you can!
