Welcome to Part 2 of The 2015 Fitbloggin Recap!
Part one included my experience leading the Annual Zumba Party, Food Photography Tips and a Flash Mob!
Saturday started great, I jumped downstairs, grabbed my breakfast with all intentions to go to Rooftop Yoga. However, when I sat down, I kinda knew that I had walked into a special conversation. At the table was Melissa, Melissa K and Jennifer. Jennifer actually had me in stitches the night before as being the unofficial drill sergeant for our flash mob but this time I got to know her and her life and pretty much fell in love with her on the spot. Our conversation that day about faith and spirituality was NOT something I expected to chat about on my Fitbloggin trip, but it happened, and I needed it.
Next it was time for my Sponsorships and Brands session with Gigi. By the time we got started we had a FULL house! People were even sitting on the floor! Gigi talked about how to snag a brand and I talked about the professionalism you should display and the extra mile you should go when you become a brand ambassador. We got some much great feedback and email afterwards that I am confident saying that the session was a huge success!!
Now that all of my “responsibility” was out of the way with leading Zumba and my session I was so ready to have some fun! First, I took some time out to check out the brands which included my favorite Egglands Best and CA Avocados. Some of the other brands represented includes Silk (who kept us full of delicious smoothies all weekend), General Mills and so much more. Plus we got to try out the awesome PostureFit bar!
California Avocados offered a special offsite lunch and you know that I signed up for that sucker right away! Given my very recent love of avocados, I knew that I was open to trying ALL the avocado type things. The meal was prepared by Top Chef Jen Jasinski and she was just the nicest ever. We also learned that if you quarter an avocado, the skin peels right off from the top—no more scooping!
Next we headed to the Finding the Medium session and you all know how much that affected me here.
Afterwards we were treated to a writing workshop by the amazingly graceful Susan Ito who has revolutionized the way I write with some very subtle changes.
Ahh, now it was time for the fun. The Jumpsport finale party. The food was so good. I tried chilli for the first time…and loved it. I also got a TON of sideeyes. As if they didn’t know I was a picky eater? Tuh.
[Tweet “An Epic Lip Sync Battle, All The Avocados and Sponsorships & Brands: #Fitbloggin Recap”]
The night may or may not have ended with myself and my favorite girl Brandi pairing up to lip sync Shake it Off if front of the entire Fitbloggin crowd. (This why I go because I can’t DO THIS AT HOME—well maybe I could but it wouldn’t be as fun!) There also may or may not have been a full out 100% crazy dance party at the end. Which is always my absolute favorite part.
After that—as if I wasn’t exhausted from all that fun—my Brooklyn sister from another mister Melissa invited me for a walk in Denver. It was gorgeous. She listened to me squawk about my job and upcoming marathon training because in case you didn’t know—Melissa is one of the best listeners ever. She asks all the *right* questions. Have you ever had a friend like that? Extremely valuable—especially when you are the one that is ALWAYS listening to other people.
This Fitbloggin was absolutely my favorite, it pushed me way out of my comfort zone, even more than the first time I attended. I removed the shield from my heart and I smiled (more) and laughed (more). I didn’t hide behind my trusted relationships and I remained wide open for new ones. The new ones that I made were seriously amazing—so much so I can’t even imagine NOT knowing them.
This one was different. I never go to Fitbloggin to meet brands (even though I met some GREAT ones this year) I go to Fitbloggin for the feels. There was no shortage of that this year. Maybe because the conference was super intimate, or maybe because I was open to new connections—it was way above my expectations. I left with a new confidence in my writing and inspired to do more outside of blogging. Thank you Roni, and all that make this conference what it is. See you next year.
Have you ever been to Denver? Have you ever done a lip sync battle? Favorite way to eat avocados?
